Aspirin during pregnancy

naomir77 · 16/06/2019 20:43

I am 42 and 16 weeks pregnant through ivf (I lost a baby at 12 weeks two years ago; this is my first successful pregnancy since then).

I saw my obstetrician on Friday who diagnosed 150mg aspirin daily to reduce risk of pre-eclampsia / blood clots. I didn't question this at the time but have subsequently been researching and everything I'm reading from medical sites is that you shouldn't take more than 75mg daily.

Am now anxious and am yet to start the aspirin. Would be grateful if anyone has any advice/experience. Thanks

Some women are given up to 300mg it really depends on your risk factors and reason for taking it. Is there any more medical background? Any history in your family? Varicose veins?

150mg is a therapeutic dose (written in the summary of product characteristics) that i have seen for prevention of cardiovascular events in pregnant and non pregnant women (and men). Your obstetrician will have lots of experience with the use of aspirin in pregnancy and i'm sure they'd be happy for you to share your concerns!

I would totally trust your doctor with this. I was prescribed aspirin too. My children are 8 and 10 now. I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes smoothly xxx

I was prescribed the exact same during this pregnancy due to previous pre eclampsia and am now 39 weeks and have had no issues at all.
Good luck and congratulations Thanks

It was standard to give 75mg up until recently, I think new evidence shows 150ng to be more effective

I’m on the same higher dose, higher risk pregnancy. It was prescribed by consultant so I’m fine with it. If the websites stated along 150 but 300 is fine with doctors consent then there would be plenty of women who would just decide that 300 is obviously safe and self diagnose
