Sudden pain in heel

Quick question - I have a pain in my heel, enough to make me limp. It feels like I have trodden on sharp gravel but there is no mark, swelling or even tenderness when I press the spot - just a dull gnawing ache which is actually quite painful. Have googled plantar fasciitis and also generally bruised heel - but nothing tells me how to relieve it - or make it go away. I tried resting my foot up for a while but if anything it throbbed more. Just wondered if there are any heel pain sufferers with helpful tips please? Totally get it's not the most serious complaint but it is painful! Thanks

I t does sound like plantar fasciitis. That's exactly how mine felt.

You need to get some inner soles for your shoes and wear them all the time. Scholl make them for plantar fasciitis - they are normally available in the chemist. The best ones ( best for me anyway) are the Orthoheel ones . They'll give almost instant relief.

It's also a good idea to use ice on it. Freeze a couple of soft-drink bottles 3/4 full of water. A few times a day, put a frozen bottle on the floor and sort of roll the arch of the foot over it for a few minutes.

The thing with plantar fasciitis, is that the pain might feel like it's in your heel, but the source of the pain is in the arch of the foot . So if you apply ice to the arch, and support it with the Scholl inner soles, you'll get relief.

PF is worse in mornings. yes, sounds like PF, although everyone has different solution to making their own PF better.

Have you bought new shoes or socks recently? I got really bad plantar fasciitis when I changed from cotton socks to bamboo socks which went away once I changed back to cotton. It could also be shoes that don't hold your feet properly or don't have good enough arch support.

go to Bob and Brad on you tube.

Their plantar F stretches are ace and got rid of mine in a few days last time i had it.

You need roll the ball the length of your foot, under your arch.

I still have a spiky ball under my desk even though I don't have PF anymore just because I quite like the feeling now. I hated it when I first started using it, but it did help with the PF. Just let your foot move in every direction as it will help to loosen the tightness on the bottom of your foot.

The other thing that helped at the time was doing foot exercises before getting out of bed, I found it on YouTube. It was things like point and flex your feet 30 times while still lying down, then sit up, put your foot across your knee and rotate with the opposite hand, then sit on the edge of the bed with feet on the ground and raise heels and toes alternately in a gentle rocking motion. Some mornings I was desperate to go to the loo so got straight up and I could feel the difference in pain levels all morning when I hadn't started with exercises.

I also recommend Bob and Brad on youtube, I had suffered with PF for months before I watched their video and was cured within a week after doing their stretches.

sackrifice thank you for mentioning Bob and Brad on YouTube. Watched and did the OF exercises Fri night and could properly walk again Sat morn. Have been terrible pain since Dec with no let up and don't see the specialist til Sept but the B&B info has helped loads. Just need to keep it up & that's the hard part.

Their PF exercises are really really very good.

They have a neck stretch which I do when my neck feels tense that is so good it makes me cry with relief.
