Kidney cancer any experienced?

My mum just got diagnosed with kidney cancer 2 days ago. I’m worried sick. It seems quite advanced- it hasn’t spread to other organs, thank god, but has started on to her renal artery. They’re talking about drug trials and surgery and i’m Terrified for her. My dad died 7 months ago and I can’t loose her too. Has anyone had experience of stage 3 kidney cancer? How bad was the surgery? What was recovery time like? Mum hasn’t been offered chemo...is this usual?

Yes, my dad had his kidney removed about 15 years or so ago and he is going strong and in his 90s. You can't really compare but I think treatment has moved on even since then. Best of luck to your mum.

Sorry you're panicking - it's understandable

My dad had kidney cancer. He lived for almost ten years from diagnosis - for the main, normal and good years - so try not to get too ahead of yourself yet

My mum had renal cancer. Had the kidney removed and then she was ok. They kept checking her every 3 months but a frwbyrs later they found nodules in her lungs. Couldn’t remove them so had Interferon A treatment, self administered at home. Slowed her down, got breathless but had good quality of life. Eventually it went to her brain andvtried radiotherapy but didn’t work, and 9 months after diagnosis she passed.

Battled for 5 yrs. sorry, not what you wanted to hear x

Sorry to hear this OP.
My SIL was diagnosed with kidney cancer last year, it was a hereditary form (her DF had it too).
She had a kidney removed, managed to avoid chemotherapy. One year later, she's doing well.

Thanks for replies everyone- she’s seen her consultants now and a plan is in place for surgery. I just hope she’s going to be ok.

So sorry to hear your mum and you are going through this.

My mum was diagnosed with kidney cancer 6 years ago, her mum died of kidney cancer at 42. My mum didn't have chemo either, they operated and removed her kidney...they got it all!! Yay.

She has been cancer free since, she had regular checks starting every 3 months and now every 12.

Due to the family history, my brother and I have to have regular checks for this too.

Please feel free to message me if you like...this is such a worrying time but if it's isolated and they've caught it in time then fingers crossed she will be ok.
