What's the treatment like?

My GP thinks I have one and has referred me for a scan.

I think it depends how big it is and what type. I've had a few and they just sent me for a scan in a few months to check progress and they've resolved themselves.

Is it causing you pain? If not, they may just monitor it. I had one which ruptured and had to have my ovary removed.

The scans are normally vaginal as they can see things better by that method. It’s not painful. Hope things work out for you.

I was diagnosed with one while pregnant- I never had any follow up. Should I be concerned? I am peri- menopausal now so don’t know if it matters?

I had an 8cm simple cyst that was found during my 12 week scan with dd1. It was removed via a laparotomy (full cut not keyhole) when she was 10mo as it hadn’t disappeared as they hoped and I was getting slight pain from it.

The op and recovery was pretty straightforward. Painful and a good few weeks recovery but that was due to the type of surgery I had.

It is causing me pain. I thought it was ovulation pains when it was an ache but it's got worse.

Mine wasn't noticed until it was too big and pushing my other organs aside. I apparently looked about 30 weeks pregnant (at 16) and needed major abdominal surgery to remove the 14lb cyst Shock.
Sorry, I've no insight on how they treat them before the go down removal route. I hope they can do something for you without having to operate!

I had a 6cm cyst that was causing me terrible pain. Took nearly a year to get the bloody thing removed but was simple enough when it was. Laparoscopy. Nobody took my pain seriously and then after the op the surgeon told me it was twisted back on itself and they were surprised I hadn’t been in more pain! Angry

Gynae offered a watch and wait approach or straight to surgery. I opted for surgery ASAP but still had to wait 5 more months.

What are the symptoms please. I had operation over year ago now to remove gall bladder but have constant dull ache in right side in the same general area. I have a feeling of pressure on lower organs and bladder. I have mentioned it every time I have been to doctor for repeat prescriptions (I have Hashimoto, thyroid disorder). The doctor just shrugs and says it can be that way after gall bladder removal and that is that. A friend said it could be something to do with ovaries so now wondering if its likely. Frankly I am starting to lose faith in my doctor but if I can compare typical symptoms it would help to know if I might have a problem.

It depends on the size and nature of the cyst. If 'simple', just a bag full of fluid, and relatively small, they will probably do a watch and wait. Most resolve themselves. If 'complex', meaning it has septations into different compartments, they will probably remove it.

You should have a Ca125 blood test. It's not totally reliable, but if it's significantly higher than normal, they will remove it sooner so they can analyse it in the lab.

Something like 98% of ovarian cysts are benign, but they can cause severe pain if they're on a stalk and it twists.

Weirdly, malignant cysts tend to cause less pain.

I had a 22cm cyst/tumour with no symptoms except a pregnant profile. 'Clinically benign', but major abdominal surgery to remove it.

Isme - ask your GP to do a Ca125 test and take it there.

Thymeout · 12/06/2019 10:03

Sorry - 'take it from there'.

isme10 · 12/06/2019 11:37

Thanks Thymeout will have another chat with GP...not living in UK so not sure that they will know what a Ca125 test is but worth asking if only to eliminate the possibility that this might be the problem.
