Cranial osteopathy - how long before you saw results?

My DD was born breech by c-section four weeks ago. She's very scrunched up and bends to the left, and she can't turn her head to the right at all, so she's quite hard to wind and hates being placed on her back. The health visitor suggested cranial osteopathy. We had the first session last week and didn't really see an improvement. In fact, if anything, she's been grumpier this week. We've got another session tomorrow. Am I expecting too much too soon? I've heard other people say how amazing it is, but maybe it takes time. The ostepath herself is very nice, but hasn't really given me much idea of what to expect or what to look for in terms of improvements, so I'm not sure if anything's actually changed at all!

I took DD because she was developing a flat spot on one side of her head due to not being able to turn her head properly, so she would always sleep with her head on the same side.

She had four sessions in all and I would say I noticed a difference after the second or third one (she started sleeping with her head the other way) after the fourth session the flat spot on her head was completly rounded out.

So it really worked for us, perhaps ask your osteopath today how many sessions she thinks you might need, plus I do remember my osteopath saying that for a few days after treatment they can get worse.

Hope you start to see some results soon!

Hi cakehead, I noticed an improvement after the 2nd session. I took my DS because of feeding probs and being scrunched up too. He had 4 sessions in total and is a much happier baby. Hope your next session brings some improvements.

I took ds1 because he was colicky and sick a lot. His first visit was at 2 mths old. Appt was in the morning, that afternoon I noticed him begin to uncurl fully for the first time. Up until then he was most comfy curled up, but after the apppt he wanted to be stretched out flat. Winding was much easier from that day, the colic disappeared, and that night he slept through for the first time, not waking for his feeds. He didn't look back. And he seemed a much happier baby. It didn't solve the sickness though - he grew out of that at about a year old.

People I know are sceptical about instant changes, most commonly they say that us parents were more relaxed knowing the lo is getting treatment, which means we are less anxious and therefore the baby is more relaxed. But I'll never forget, the afternoon of that first appt my dh was made redundant. So we had huuuge anxieties that day, but ds1 seemed more relaxed and happier than ever!

With ds2 we took him along because we were told that even babies without outward signs could benefit from CO. I knew he was a very, very slow feeder, but thought that was just him. In his initial assessment the osteopath explained to me that babies that have had to be fed by an ng tube (he was in SCBU for a few days) can sometimes be slow feeders because of alignment of something in his gullet being out of kilter. So we had a series of appts, and after a few weeks his feeding suddenly improved. (He started sleeping through the night of his 2nd appt). His change wasn't as dramatic as ds1, and so more difficult to attribute to CO.

In sumary, I had one with immediate (same day) improvements, and one that took a few weeks.
