Gum gap from wisdom tooth

Any dentists here, or anyone with experience of this?
I know I need to go to the dentist but I'm struggling to find the time for a couple of weeks.

About a month ago, I got what felt like a cut with infection or abscess on the gum around one of my wisdom teeth but I am generally of the mind that these sort of things clear up (as they gave in the past) and I didn't need to bother the dentist about it. (I think I cut it on a crunchy piece of bread, that's happened before and it sorted itself out). A month or so on, and I can now feel the gum has come away from the tooth a bit like a little flap, and it's tender/sore - I am basically hoping someone will tell me this is salvageable and I'm not going to have to get the tooth pulled, or worse. Help!

I had this, it's called an operculum and is common with wisdom teeth. It's where a bit of the gum forms a flap over where the tooth comes out. The reason I found out is because I got an infection there because food tends to get stuck and it's hard to clean properly. As far as I know, it won't go away and if the infection reoccurs it's recommended to get the tooth removed. I never got another infection but I had my impacted wisdom teeth removed a few years ago and don't regret it one bit.

A lot of people have their wisdom teeth out and ots no big deal so don't worry about that bit. My dd had hers out as orthodontist saw they would undo all the good work done by her braces.
See a dentist as you may get an infection there which can be very painful.

Thanks, both.
Darn, I really didn't want another tooth out, yuck.
I will book to see the dentist, just like to be a bit prepared where possible.
