Can anyone diagnose my shoulder pain from this very specific pose??

My shoulder has been ‘not right’ for over 8 months but doesn’t hurt unless I try and lift my arm above shoulder height- and then the pain is bearable but uncomfortable. However if I lie flat on my back and try and put my arms flat on the ground above my head - it really hurts. My yoga teacher spotted me struggling to stretch out , stood over me and pulled up my chest so my lower back arched and my shoulder blades came in a bit and propped up my upper body. Pain disappeared and my arm went flat to the floor. I’ve not got my act together to see a GP as it isn’t really affecting my life every day it’s more of a niggle, but the amount of pain I get from that flat floor pose does worry me as clearly something is up. Any thoughts? Do I just carry on trying to stretch it out and wait for it to mend??

GO TO YOUR GP! That is the only way you can get a diagnostic opinion. They will send you for a muscular skeletal ultrasound and X-rays. 8 months is too long to have been in pain like this without seeking treatment. You could end up waiting a while to get any imaging appointments as well. Chances are it won't get better by itself as it has been 8 months ongoing. Please seek treatment soon Op.

Yes I agree totally. Go see the doctor for sure and a physiotherapist. Good luck.

Yeah pain for that long needs to be seen.

But I remember having the exact same thing at yoga years ago. Turned out that it was from carrying my toddler around on that side. I started making him walk more and the pain went away.
