When did you first take your child to the Dentist?

As title says.

Our 6 yo Ds has just lost his first tooth, he's very excited about it. And seems to have very healthy teeth.
3yo DD obviously hasn't lost a tooth yet and again seems to have a healthy mouth. In fact she loves brushing her teeth and often asks to do it throughout the day.

But as yet neither of them have been to see a dentist Blush
And with the new guidelines that state before they are 1 I'm guessing we're well behind?

For the record, I go every 6 months. My wife goes once every two years as advised by her Dentist.

As soon as they get their first tooth. I have even see babies with no teeth. Although I would say anything under 2 is fine

It's about acclimitising them as well as checking their teeth. A child who's been since a baby/toddler age will find it so much easier.

With all due respect OP, I assume you are not a dentist. You won't know if their teeth are fine. There's also prevention the dentist can be giving your child, advise and fluoride.

From about 2, they got a sticker and even now see it as a fun trip. I hate the dentist and didn't want them to have them same fears. But they definitely need regular check ups, the dentist can see warning signs you can't, my son has a very deep groove on one of his molars and so the dentist coats that tooth with fluoride and scrapes the groove every 6 months to protect against decay.

I've taken DD with me since birth to get her used to the room. They started looking in her mouth from about 2. She has her first proper appointment (as in actually booked in for her) in Sept, just after she is 3.

Mine have gone from 6 months. My mum never took me to the dentist (best mum ever but a single parent and utter panic phonia about dentists, has never been herself), I had to beg at 15 and needed so much work and braces at 18 so mine are going early and regularly.

Don't worry, OP...just get them down the dentist now. As long as you've been brushing their teeth regularly and they've not had a particularly sugary diet then I'm sure their teeth are fine. And if they're not, then at least the dentist can advise you going forward on what to do to manage any issues. It's really not the end of the world unless they've been drinking liquid sugar out of a bottle for the past 6 years!

From around 6 months here too. From around 2 they get fluoride varnish on their back teeth.

From 6 months, when the first tooth appeared
Just get them both on the list now, better late than never

I would read up on first-visit guides like this one https://www.inspiredentalwellness.com/everything-you-need-to-know-about-your-first-dental-appointment/

Guides like these are incredibly helpful for everything from a child’s first appointment, a first visit after a move, and even when you are just searching for a new dentist. I like to prepare ahead of time, and when a practice offers a first-visit guide on their website, it makes a big difference. I know what to expect and it makes the entire experience feel more comfortable.
