Does anyone know how long it normally takes for the ulcers/blisters in the mouth to go,please?
DS1 has has them since yesterday morning and it is absolutely heartbreaking.
He is so hungry but hasn't eaten a thing.Everytime he tries to put something in his mouth,he's screaming. From what I can see he has about 10 ulcers/blisters under his lips and his tongue is also covered in them and some have been bleeding today.
We're back at the doctors again in the morning, but not sure how much more either of us can take of this.

sorry can't help but bumping for you

Thanks.
He's awake at the mo,for the 3rd time tonight. He's had the max dose of Calpol and Neurofen and can't have anymore Calpol til about 1am.
Have just put some gel in his mouth to try and numb the pain.Seems really cruel and it stings when you apply it and he's looking at me,wondering why I'm making his mouth hurt so much.

Hi

ds had this a few months ago but none in the mouth. I had it after and had them in my mouth - I think they were bad for 2 days and then subsided. It might be different for a child though. It is miserable and I hope he gets better soon!

Bubbaloo · 20/07/2007 22:34

Thanks-lets hope it's not for much longer then.

He was up screaming til 2.30am this morning and most of today.Went back to the doc's who has now given him anti biotics,so I'm hoping they hurray up and kick in soon.He did manage a bowl of porridge today, inbetween screams so that's a good sign.
Doc now thinks it might be measles instead of Hand foot and mouth, but is unsure.Saw a locum who was so lovley-he even gave me his mobile number to ring him if I have any concerns.Lets hope tomorrow is a better day for him.

DD (13 months) just had this. She had trouble eating for about five days - it was so sad as she was so hungry but would scream anytime she ate anything.

I found that feeding her room temperature yoghurt and fruit puree in front of the tv worked best. Drinking yoghurt also went down well. She also seemed to be able to eat rich tea and digestive biscuits, so she basically survived on these until her mouth cleared up.
