Dandruff

Hi all

I'm not even sure here is the appropriate place to post but over the last few months my scalp has got terrible.

I've never had an issue before. And I have never had dandruff. My scalp is becoming very sensitive and sore. And my scalp is lifting awful.

I know there are people with much bigger problems than this but it's getting me really down and self conscious now as I can't hide it. I have dark hair and the size of the flakes are huge. I can see people keep glancing up at my hair when we are talking for me to then discover I have dandruff on show. At my sons parents evening his teacher literally spoke to my hair lol. It seems to be worse on the top and front of my head.

I've just washed and dried my hair ready to go out. It's everywhere SadSad I've literally had to get a nit comb through my hair to drag it all out and it comes out full of dry skin.

I can't understand why my scalp is this bad. I've been very lucky that my hair has always been able to take any shampoo and conditioner. I even get it with Salon shampoos and conditioners.

Does anyone have any words of advice what I can do to ease things please? I'm sorry if this sounds silly but it's getting my down now.

Thank you

I had dandruff like this. I went to the doctor in the end and she said it was infected eczema. Betnovate scalp application got rid of it very quickly. I had tried various shampoos recommended by a pharmacist but they would work briefly then it would return.

I definitely need to get my bloods rechecked but if it does turn out to be something unrelated, to anyone who has scalp problems, is there anything that triggers it for you. I've just looks at my head and I have a few visible sores. It's very tender to touch also

I do suffer with excema. I have it in my ears and horrendously on my hands. I'm 32 and my hands look like they belong on an 180 year old! I'm ashamed of them. I've spent months treating my severely cracked hands that have been so painful. In the end only betnovate seems to help them a little.

You could also try the Lush shop dream cream for your hands and other parts of your body it gets very good ratings from eczema sufferers you can but try x

Also Hemp hand cream from TBS ( I promise I don't work for them!) There was a thread on here the other day by someone who had terrible hands and within 48 hrs there was a big improvement using Hemp. I have heard good things about the Lush cream too.

Again fantastic advice. My hands are also an embarrassment. The only thing that helped was betnovate but the docs won't give me that again due to the strength. My hands still look bloody aware and I am so aware people can see how old and cracked they are

Do you use liquid handwash/shower gel? Ditch it if you do and use a bar of soap.

NGC2017 · 19/05/2019 09:41

I do but always get the sensitive stuff. Never considered a bar of soap instead

Try a bar of soap for 2 weeks and see if it makes a difference, Waitrose do nice sensitive soaps that are megga cheap. Even sensitive shower gels and hand wash irritate my skin and I had pompholyx on my fingers. I noticed it got dramatically better when I stayed at my parent's house and they only use bars of soap- never looked back!

user1471451866 · 19/05/2019 11:14

I agree about bar soap. I use Simple soap or own brand equivalent. I have been known to take my own soap with me to other people's houses!
I also have eczema in and behind my ears as well as on my face. I moisturize before and after washing and I find that it's best to tackle all areas together. Most moisturisers sting my face and hands but my doctor stressed that i should use them anyway.

NGC2017 · 19/05/2019 11:39

Thank you. I had no idea. And there is no harm in me trying a bar of soap. When my DS was a baby that's all we used

@NGC2017 have you considered psoriasis? I suffer with this and when it flares up, it can be very sore and irritating and very flaky

NGC2017 · 19/05/2019 11:56

@JustBeenNosey I've not.

I posted here yesterday as it was particularly uncomfortable. Even running my fingers through my hair hurt.

I probably need to get things checked with the doctor but I really appreciate all the advice and suggestions

I'd have a look into that..

I've suffered with scalp psoriasis Since doing my GCSE's about 9 years ago.. since then I've started with it on my elbows and legs.

Coconut oil is very soothing rubbed into really sore bits, I sleep with it on over night and wash off in the morning, just use shampoo first before wetting under the shower.
