Has anyone been recently sterilised?

I’m considering this and all the threads I’ve done a search on seem pretty old and I understand that it’s a bit of an easier procedure now... or am I wrong?

I’m 38 and definitely don’t want any more children - I have two, one 16 and one 6 and the youngest has complex needs. I have a lot of health issues (endocrine ones, loads) and I’ve been advised not to take hormonal contraception. I don’t want to have a coil fitted for birth trauma ptsd reasons so I’m wondering whether sterilisation might be an answer long term.

What was the recovery like etc?

Any experiences welcome!

Thank you.

(Before anyone suggests it dh having a vasectomy isn’t an option as he has an issue with the tubes in his bits and bobs that causes long term pain and urinary difficulties as it is so don’t particularly want to add to that, as that would be a risk)!

I I had it done 20 months ago when I was 29. I had it done during the c section so I wasn't really aware of the sterilisation recovery. It has made my periods heavier and painful though.

Thanks for the reply, I’m a bit SadShock that your periods are worse! I was hoping it might do the opposite. I have really bad large clots etc. Hmmm...!

Not recently, but 26 years ago by laparotomy. The worst bit was the bruising after the inflation, but I bruise easily. It didn't affect my periods

I had it done a few years ago. I was quite sore for a few days. Apart from that all has been fine.
Periods were already heavy so didn’t notice any difference with those.

I had it done 20 years ago. It was a doddle. I had a bit of shoulder pain from the CO2 insufflation but had it done on a Friday and was back at work on the Monday. It didn’t affect my periods at all. I can highly recommend it. To not have to bother about contraception is wonderful.

I had it done at my last c section in 2016, I was thirty three.
My periods are heavier and last a bit longer but thats about it in way of side effects.
Its nice not to have to worry about getting pregnant anymore.Smile

I asked my GP to be referred for one and she was adamant my CCG will not fund them nowadays for family planning unless it’s at c section Sad

Thanks for the replies. It’s reassuring to see others have found it okay and periods haven’t been much worse.

I am willing to pay privately, although I think they will probably agree to doing it on the nhs given the difficulties I have with my health and the fact I already have two children, one with severe autism and learning disabilities so I wouldn’t want to have any more as I already have my hands very full!

I will have a good think about it all.
