Premenstrual Diarrhea

Didleysquat · 15/05/2019 22:09

My 11 year old is suffering premenstrual diarrhea for a couple of days each month which is keeping her off school. Does anyone else suffer likewise? Doctor told me to give her Immodium though I am reluctant thinking this will cause other issues! Just don't know what to do for the best

I’ve always had ‘period poos’ as I call them - always thought it was normal.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 15/05/2019 22:13

I have always had this too... like poster above thought it was normal?

Mac47 · 15/05/2019 22:14

Always had this couple of days before and after it starts. V normal for me.

MrsJamin · 15/05/2019 22:16

Yeah really normal. But not so bad it's actually runny, just softer.

CheekyFuckersDontGetPastMe · 15/05/2019 22:17

Normal for me along with violent wind pre period.

I blew off so harshly in the car on the way out of work I gave myself a cramp in my calf!

TMI but true.

Didleysquat · 15/05/2019 22:18

My daughter suffers it like water coming out of her. Very instant and a panic to get to the toilet? Is anyone that bad?

I get this and have done for as long as I can remember. Unless she’s actually ill or the diarrhoea is uncontrollable I wouldn’t keep her off school for it.

I have to take Imodium prior to each period. Always have. I would let her have it rather than suffer. It's caused by muscles relaxing to allow blood flow but can affect bowel movements too.

senttomefromheaven · 15/05/2019 22:23

Yep the same and the stinkiest farts that would knock you out.

Ohyesiam · 15/05/2019 22:27

It’s caused by smooth muscle being affected by a localised hormone. It traces the uterus, but also the bowel.
I would try her on the Imodium

Didleysquat · 15/05/2019 22:27

Diarrhoea is definitely uncontrollable, she always feels sick with it too. In my naivity I thought there would be some magic medication other than Immodium. She gets this for two days and is completely wiped out with it. I just am not sure I feel right giving an 11 year old Immodium, I had Immodium just once and never again!! Suffered terribly after!

Relaxes not traces??

Didleysquat · 15/05/2019 22:31

Apologies for all the questions but if I give her Immodium will she still be feeling sick?

i get this call it javilin ass Blush dont know if taken it will help the nausea but you could try those travel sickness bands?

i also found taken sips of icey water helps the nausea.

bless her to be going through this at 11 also evening if primrose oil helps the hormones.

madeyemoodysmum · 15/05/2019 22:42

Yes awful. Only just got home in time today to get to a loo.

Halfeatentoast · 16/05/2019 08:08

Yep period poo here too. But I didn't know others could have it be so uncontrollable- poor girl! I'm not sure what problems you've had with Immodium but I know though sometimes Immodium can make me feel constipated after but it's probably because if you're sick too (which is when i take it) you stop eating so there's nothing much to come out IYSWIM, rather than it actually stopping you completely. I think if she continues to eat normally it shouldn't have this effect? Maybe talk to a pharmacist who could suggest something else?

Bless her xxxx

Halfeatentoast · 16/05/2019 08:10

Oh p.s. Im not sure about the sickness. Definitely try a pharmacist first.

Didleysquat · 16/05/2019 08:20

Thanks so much for all the response, very much appreciated. I honestly didn't realise women suffered so much in this way. Will be changing doctors today and going for a second opinion. I understand the Immodium could help the diahhoea, but the sickness feeling and dizziness she has is still an issue. This has been going on since her first period on Sept, I'm guessing maybe it will settle down somewhat after a few more months hopefully!

I don't have periods currently but when I did, this was a monthly occurrence. My stomach just could not digest anything properly for the few days before and first few days of the period. Never tried Imodium actually.

Periods are hellish :(

JudgeRindersMinder · 16/05/2019 09:32

I don’t have periods due to Mirena (not suggesting that for an 11 year old!!) and I used to have horrendous period poo, and very stinky wind too.
I’d be tempted to give the Imodium a try, but that choice is obviously down to you.
Poor wee thing being hit with this so young
