I have my first injection on Monday, people have been telling me it is painful. Anyone else had them? What was the result?

I am very scared!

I have a blood test booked for Wednesday and will see what that tells me. I have folic acid deficiency too so will update when I get results.

What are you having tested? I hope not B12! Once you've had injections your level will be high whatever, it's not good practice to retest again.

Don’t let them retest your b12!

I have been told it is to check levels after loading doses and check my folic acid levels and whether they need medicating too!

You will get a false result if you've been having B12 injections, it will be high. You need at least 3 months of no treatment before you can get another accurate blood test for your B12 I believe.

For the folate deficiency quite a few of us on Pat Kornic's treatment protocol take a high dose 5mg supplement of folic acid, I get it from Amazon but it needs to be high strength so 5mg capsule per day. It got my folate deficiency sorted, and you need an optimal level for the B12 to work as they work together.

I can recommend the FB group I mentioned, run by experts with so much info and advice the GP's can't give you. Just search on FB for:

The problem with testing after loading doses is that your levels will be high - everyone's are. Unfortunately this is then sometimes used as a justification for stopping treatment.
What they should check in a blood test is evidence of anaemia improving if you had anaemia. Eg I had macrocytic anaemia which is abnormally enlarged red blood cells - that can be checked for improvement on a repeat blood test.
