Post partum joint pain getting worse

I'm 5 months postpartum and for the last month the pain in my joints has been steadily increasing. It started around the time my hair started falling out and was mildly annoying at first. Sore knees, sore hands and feet etc.

It's now gotten steadily worse and I'm often hobbling about, particularly in the morning. Most nights I now get up to take painkillers which eases symptoms when I wake up for day with baby.

I've also had night sweats 5 nights out of 7. Altogether it certainly sounds hormonal but as the joint pain is getting worse, and my ankles are now swollen it is worrying me.

I'm going for bloods next week, but would just like to hear if anyone has experienced anything similar and what helped/how long it lasted. Thanks!

I had that and was awful! It coincided with me having an MRI for face pain during my pregnancy, and I was sent down the rabbit hole and MS/lupus was mentioned. It was absolutely awful.

HOWEVER....it wasn't that...it came down to hyper mobility. Relaxin makes your ligaments super stretchy and it takes a while for it to go back to normal. You maybe referred to physio too. Do you have super bendy joints? Double jointed? If so all that causes a strain.

Face pain! Pregnancy really does throw up all sorts of odd things!

No, just normal joints. Always been quite active and have lost baby weight so not as though joints under any pressure.

Face pain was considered trigeminal neuralgia at one point, hence the MRI. Urgh!

Most of my joints hurt, thumbs/elbows/knees/ankles/wrists mainly. It was hard to get out of bed. My back killed when sleeping or bending to change baby too. Apparently that was due to poor core strength.

Hopefully the blood test comes back ok but the GP suggests something though!

(I mean suggests something to ease your mind! 😬 I've got pregnancy insomnia at the mo so my brain is a bit addled lol)

Haha! Thanks, hoping it is hormones somehow and will go away soon. The night sweats are getting worse. Just when I thought pregnancy and it's added bonuses were behind me!

This is me! I did have SPD during pregnancy but that mainly effected my pubic bone. That's eased off massively but instead I have coccyx pain, knee and joint pains. 5 months PP here too Sad

I had similar with the addition of Reynauds Syndrome in my fingers. I was fairly swiftly diagnosed with Lupus when my daughter was 6 months old, they said pregnancy often triggers it. Hope they get to the bottom of it quickly for you.

Sprintfinish · 12/05/2019 20:10

Just looked up lupus and certainly ticking some boxes...this is why we shouldn't Google!!
