Minor car crash

Last week exDP and I were leaving parents evening and he reversed into a bench. A ridiculously low bench that none of the car sensors picked up. However he was reversing much faster than was bloody necessary Hmm so I got ragdolled and had only just fastened my seatbelt (I’ve told him before about starting to drive before it’s fastened).

Anyway. I’m in bloody agony. Spent hours in A&E and had mild concussion and whiplash. I’ve never been injured like this before and I’m a single parent with 3DSs.

My neck, shoulders and back are fucked. I can hardly move. I’m on study leave from Uni for the big summer exams (STEM so won’t be easy!) and I’m on codeine, diazepam and ibuprofen. Barely touching the pain and making me really dopey.

Is there a trick I’m missing? Something I could do be doing to help the healing process?

Contact his insurance company and tell them you have been injured as a result of a collision whilst he was driving. They should be able to arrange for physiotherapy for you, obviously with your doctor's permission. He must have hit the bench with some force to hurt you so much! You need to rest as much as possible, difficult with three DC. Has he stepped up and taken on more parenting ?

Concussion & whiplash from reversing into a bench...? How fast was he going? Sounds very dangerous

Yep seriously, from reversing into a bench. He drives like a boy racer despite being 40 odd and it drives me up the wall.

No he’s pretty useless beyond his EOW and termly appearances at parents evening. DH has been amazing and friends have dropped food off for me so I’m not doing too much besides sit on the sofa and try to revise.

Hadn’t even thought about contacting his insurance company.

Heat can help. Also get in touch with your uni exam office and let them know. They can provide extra support if you still need it.
