lead pipes?

does anyone else worry about lead pipes in their homes? i've been told by water company and council that its a problem and to give my baby bottled water until we can afford to replace them.. anyone else have this?

depends where you live, if in a hard water area the water is very slightly alkaline because of the calcium (causes the kettle to fur up) the lead cannot dissolve so better, if soft water area especially scotland the water is very slightly acid (no calcium but may contain dissolved carbon dioxide) then it can dissolve the lead. All happens very slowly (worse after water standing in pipes overnight) can reduce it by running water for washing before pouring water for drinking and cooking
