swelling on front wall of vagina?

Have a soft swelling on the front wall of vagina, just inside really. Can be pushed out the way (inwards) if that makes sense. Sometimes itches and sharp little pains in that area, once or twice have had spots of blood after sex. I can feel it's there, like it’s taking up space inside or “hanging down”. Sometimes also get a really fishy smell down there, this comes and goes.

Could this be a bladder prolapse? Smears are regular and normal, have had a few gps and nurse practitioners examine me and can’t see any bleeding or anything sinister. A swab only showed thrush but several canestan treatments didn’t make any difference. Bit scared it’s a cancer and it’s been missed (it’s been there years though). No discharge. Anyone got any other ideas as I’m at a bit of a (worried) loss.

Bladder prolapse wouldn't cause itching, pain or blood. Rest of it sounds like a bladder prolapse (I have one).

How long has it been there? I was going to say maybe a retained tampon but that’s v unlikely given you’ve been examined.

I think It could be a rectocele.

the itching can also be down to something going on with your vulva and not your vagina.

sorry just to add - if you lie down a rectocele can become less apparent and may be more difficult to pick up during an internal examination.

I had this for a while and it was thrush. I almost felt like my vagina would fall out it was so swollen.

It took a course of pessaries (canesten cream internal not the tablets) combined with the oral tablet to shift it. On another occasion (AB = dreadful thrush for me) I had a 30 day course of cream pessaries.

All fine now.

I would say it’s been there 4 years and has got very slowly worse in that time. Babys were all c sections though.

Rectocele sounds possible, can you get anterior ones I wonder?

Don’t know about the crazy itching (sometimes wakes me up!). Maybe it’s just dryness or something. It does affect the vulva too but I’ve asked the medics to check everywhere down there. One said I had folliculitis, not sure if that causes itching and an intermittent fishy smell though

Do you think if it was sinister it would’ve progressed more in 4 years?

Maybe I should ask the gp to examine me while I’m standing up so it is more obvious? (will they think I’m nuts??)

Bartholin's cyst?

I thought that's what I had and the GUM clinic tested and found it was thrush. Everything felt swollen and lumpy but after treatment it went back to normal

Mascarponeandwine · 05/05/2019 19:54

I’ve had the canestan internal peasant and cream twice and it didn’t really do much. Is there a stronger treatment I should ask for?

Op, have a look at this diagram.

Get examined and make sure they see you from all angles

It could be a diverticulum. You need to ask your GP to refer you to a bladder specialist, just in case.
