Will dishwasher kill E.coli ?

I am a tenant and have received a letter from the letting agent saying that the water has been tested and contains E.coli....to use bottled water.

I am wondering if it’s safe to use the dishwasher. Or should I be washing the dishes in boiled water ?

Is there an Intensive setting on the dishwasher thay goes above 70 degrees as apparently that's the temperature that kills E Coli

Yes . I have read that in order to kill it, in water it has to be boiled for a minute...hence my concern .

Doubt it would. Ours doesn’t even wash the bloody plates let alone kill ecoli!

dementedpixie · 04/05/2019 19:51

That's for water suitable for drinking. If it's for washing dishes then over 70 degrees should suffice

greenelephantscarf · 04/05/2019 19:51

yes, on a high setting (70 degrees) plus the harsh d/w detergent it would.

What is the agent doing about the E.coli?

TheBitterBoy · 04/05/2019 20:26

Where are you living? If you're in the UK is the water from a private supply like a well? I'm assuming you're not on mains water.

Yes your hot wash on the dishwasher kills bacteria. However let it cool down once it is finished so no steam escapes.

It’s from a private source ...a well

The landlord has said they are going to connect me to a different source . It’s a house on a country estate . My husband reckons that it’s only the hot water that comes from the well, and that the cold comes from the other supply. Both the hot and cold water comes out of the same mixer tap so I’m not risking it.
