Fibromyalgia?

I have had severe neck and shoulder pain on and off for years...x rays etc showed nothing. I have also now had hip and buttock pain for over 3 years...hip x ray shows nothing, physio hasn't helped. For the last 18 months my shoulders have joined in...and whilst ultrasound shows some minor wear and tear, apparently it's not enough to explain the pain. All of this comes and goes to an extent, although there is aways at least one of them hurting at any given time. It gets me down.

Then add to the mix severe pins and needles/numbness that's bad enough to disturb my sleep and that can limit my ability to do fine motor tasks. Again, comes and goes, worst at night. Been going on about 3 years.

Last year or so I also been having bouts of extreme fatigue...a spot of gardening and I am physically drained after only 10 minutes. Some days I am fine.

I am becoming concerned that I am ticking quite a few fibromyalgia boxes. Does it come on like this tho, first one area that hurts, then another and another?

I also have a number of other oddities that have been going on that I have put down to menopause, but maybe not?! Im clumsy, forgetful, have bouts of muscle weakness with shooting pains if I try too hard eg. to unscrew a jar.

How do I know for sure whether this is fibromyalgia or whether its just a range of unconnected issues?? And if it is, what can i do about it?

I have very similar symptoms, op.
I'm 45 and put most of it down to perimenopause, it's strange though. I also fit a lot of the symptoms for lupus, including the facial rash.
Could also be anaemia, hypothyroidism, low vitamin D. Also low Vit B12 (pernicious anaemia - I've had this for years and get 3 monthly injections.)
Have you seen your GP?

Blood tests would be a good starting point, although I think fibro is diagnosed via pressure points on the body, amongst other things.

You're not alone!

hi rttds ,

You should very seriously consider long term vitamin D deficiency might be the cause of your problem.

Have a look at this thread , where many people have similar symptoms ... how it affected them, what doses they took etc. It has been found that many people with Fibromyalgia do in fact have vit D deficiency, proper treatment reduces or even relieves the symptoms.
I posted quite a bit there , concerning Vit D , have a look at the Youtube lecture by Prof Holick, at School of Medicine, Boston University. about the 30th post from the top.

         <a class="break-all" href="https://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/general_health/2421492-Vitimin-D-can-it-have-this-effect" target="_blank">www.mumsnet.com/Talk/general_health/2421492-Vitimin-D-can-it-have-this-effect</a>

IF that is your problem, you should try and raise your vitamin D level to above 100 nmol/L in UK Units. ( Which is the same as 40 ng/ml in US Units ). As explained in that thread. IF you have malabsorption problems, then a an oral spray may be more advantages as a supplement.

Best of luck. Hope this is helpful.

Get back to me if you need any more information.

Thats interesting Better, I do have a history of low vit D and do (sporadically!) supplement. I will have a good read of everything you suggest. Thanks.
