Involuntary "jolts" /twitches. What could it be?

My dd is home from uni and we went for lunch yesterday. During the meal and later that day, she experienced a bodily (upper) jolt (more pronounced than a twitch). She told us she's been having them on and off for a few months and sometimes are so violent she spills food or drinks. She's otherwise in good health, no history of any neurological problems. Typical student, studying, working, partying. The only other thing is that she gets excessively tired at times.
She's off back to uni Tuesday, and is going to try to get in to the doctors tomorrow. But has anyone got any experience of similar or have any idea what it could be? (I googled, I was up all night worrying after)

Could be a form of seizure, best she sees the doc and maybe get a Neurology referral.
