Wonder if anybody can help. I have been taking 75mg of Levothyroxine for the last couple of months, I do feel better than I did at the start, but some symptoms are still there like constipation ,brain fog and cold intolerance, not as bad as before though. My latest blood test says my ft4 is 13.8 which is in the normal range. I wonder if anyone is in a similar position to mine....Thankyou.

But for people with just Hashimotos? It seems a big claim to me

lola71 · 05/05/2019 14:11

Quick report back. Have been a few days alternating between 75mcg and 100mcg of Levothyroxine and my cold intolerance has gone! My bowels seem to be improving as well and no fatigue. Memory also better. Early days but wanted to report back in case this is of help to anyone.

Out if interest what is the diet?

thyroidmad · 07/05/2019 05:58

Apparently eliminating gluten, soy and taking various supplements cured this woman Confused

Glad you're improving @lola71 , I started my new dose last week and am not improving yet, but hopefully I'll feel better soon..

Could I ask if anybody had repeat borderline results beforehand? I've had 2 and I wonder how many times this happens before they do something about it. I have crippling tiredness. Somebody mentioned asking for additional blood tests but didn't think our NHS practice offered these. I'm afraid I don't know what they were called but she got them done privately and it showed an under active thyroid rather than borderline.

Thank you Thyroidmad. I hope you start to feel better soon. I am at the start of my thyroid journey as I had it removed 4 weeks ago. At the moment I get very tired in the afternoons but not sure if it’s lack of thyroxine or recovering from operation.

lola71 · 08/05/2019 07:50

Yes, I think it will take a while and we need to be patient. At the beginning I was also borderline, but as I had most of the symptoms, the gp prescrided Levothyroxine. Started on 25mcg and slowly built up.

Thank you Lola; I wonder if my gp will do the same. Hope you ladies start to feel the benefits and feel better soon.

I'm hypo and feel best when my tsh is 1ish and T4 at the top of range 21. In the early days I took 50mcg and my results were in range but I felt awful. Finally a Dr decided to treat how I felt rather than the numbers and I felt better on 100mcg. I also supplement b12, iron and vitd as these tend to be in the low side when hypo.

@lola71 - I take 75mg of levothyroxine, 2 months isn't really long enough to tell - you need to give it 3 months before a blood test & they will review it then.

Make sure that you take your tablets with water & don't have anything to eat or drink (especially coffee) for 30 minutes afterwards

CabbageHippy · 14/05/2019 17:15

@Hadenoughofitall441 - can you tell me more about the pins & needles? I have had the same thing down my right arm & been had physio for a possible trapped nerve but it hasn't helped

ColdTiredFoggy · 15/05/2019 19:21

@CabbageHippy underactive thyroid can trigger/cause carpul tunnel syndrome. I only found this out recently. I had left hand operated on in 2007 (post DD) and right hand 2008 (post birth of DS). Antibodies and low levels discovered about a year after (though could have been there before) but did not reach the threshold for treatment until about 2012.

lola71 · 09/06/2019 22:24

Quick report: I had to decrease my Levothyroxine dosage to 75mcg as my thyroid became overactive. Clearly, one has to take things very slowly with this condition.
