I'm becoming increasingly bothered by my top teeth as they are crowded and it really upsets me....everyone tells me they are fine and they don't notice but I think they are just saying that and anyway it does bother me.....

so i'm thinking I should bite the bullet and go ahead and do it but 13years ago as a child I didn't want to do it and I was just wandering if anyone has gone through the whole braces thing as an adult-how was it, how did people react, how much longer did it take, how much did it cost? etc etc

I don't want not to have done it and still be wandering and wanting to in another 13 or so years....

So all your advice and experiences please!

kangaboy is about to get his train tracks put on top and bottom

I REALLY want to do it-I suppose the main draw back is the cost although I do think it'll be worth it. I'm not sure if there is a teaching hospital near here-i'm in poole-does anyone know? Getting it done for free would be great

If you don't mind me asking kangamummy-how much do you pay monthly?

Have dental appointment in sep and at my first one with her a few years ago she said if I ever wanted to then just to ask her so hopefully it could get moving fairly quickly.

Only concerns are events like weddings etc (my sis is planning hers but not set date yet-don't think it'll be for 18months to 2 years so that could work quite well!!!)

Its great to hear from others who have done it and are considering it

At the time I was a student and didn't even realise I could get them done on the NHS - I just lucked out really. But it is so worth it, and if I'd had to pay for it I would have. Don't worry about weddings. I was bridesmaid to my best friend and had really hoped to have them off before her wedding - it didn't happen, but when I told her how disappointed I was she said she didn't even notice them any more. And now when I look at pictures I don't either. They become so much apart of you. If you have the clear ones they barely show really. And if they are off by then you'll have utterly gorgeous teeth to show off.

I used to make a feature of mine by having a different colour of elastic band put on each time I had them tightened. I went through pink, navy blue, purple, turquoise -the orthodontist used to enjoy guessing which colour I'd have each time.

I pay £150 per month

Honestly get them done

When I see photos of me beforehand I am shocked and embarressed

{And I had a removeable brace when I was a teenager but it didn't work}

But I love to smile now with them on

As the poster says at the ortho

"WHEN PEOPLE SEE YOUR BRACES IT SHOWS YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR SMILE, SO SMILE"

I had mine done at 16, so quite late. Loads of older people do - it's not seen as a big deal and is soooo worth it

I was unhappy with top front teeth and finally went to orthodentist. She said would take about 2 years and cost about £2k. I really wanted it done, dp felt waste of money. I agreed to leave it one year, see how I felt then.

6 months on , I am not so bothered about my teeth - once I knew they couldbe straightened and what it would cost, it seemed to become less imoprtan to me to change them...

I just think long term it'll make me feel so much happier to smile-especially when I see pictures of myself-they seem to have got worse

Hi sammysam, I would definately go for it! I'm 23 and currently have metal fixed braces (ok i get funny looks for pushing my daughter round in the pram cos i look even younger with braces) but i know it'll be well worth it in the end. I've got them for 14 months and it cost £1300 (which i pay £100 every 5-6wks when i go to have them tightened) You can tell the difference in my teeth already and the braces have only been on since march.

Hope this helps and good luck if u decide to go ahead with it!

Thanks everyone!
How did you go about it and how long did it take to get started?
