What has bitten my dh's finger and turned it red with a growing blister?

It hurts and is itchy. The blister is about 1 cm long and the whole tip of his pinky is red.

There aren't any obvious puncture marks though. What could it be? Help and thanks.

Could it be a whitlow? DD had one, and it looked like a blister.

Did it come up suddenly? It does look like that a bit, but his came up over a couple of minutes (from starting itching to blister and red tip). He's prone to weird things - had a flesh eating virus once. Might have been a flesh eating bacteria, he says. At any rate, flesh was eaten and he has a cool scar.

Horse fly-bites can be horribly painful and swollen with no obvious bite marks.

Not a horsefly - he's been bitten by those before. Thanks, though. I'm googling all suggestions.. it's enough to make me paranoid about all creepy crawly things.

He wants to know if it's possible that it's radioactive and he'll get superpowers.

is it a reaction to something he's picked in the woods....the sap of giant hogweed causes blistering skin reactions

I don't think so, he just went to the market today and claims he didn't pick any weeds. He did go through plants when he ran he says - would it come up hours later?

He's just asked "So no one thinks I have superpowers?". He does have a small muscle twitch in his leg which could be the start of superstrength or superspeed?

Sorry - I'd gone to bed. No, the whitlow came up fairly gradually, over a couple of days. Hope it subsides (and that if he does get any superpowers, they're useful ones - maybe super dusting powers, or super-fast tidying up ones).

Maybe a spider? A friend of mine had something similar recently and the only conclusion that anyone could come up with was a spider bite as she had been taking rubbish that had been left outside to the tip. I think that very occasionally people can react to british spiders. Hers did get infected and needed antibiotics - took a few months to clear up properly but she did leave it ages before getting medical attention.

It's gone now. He doesn't have superpowers (he just said "I might, heh heh heh" and last night tried to claim a bra sizing superpower ).

It might have been a spider bite - we have a few in the house. I suppose we'll never know, bah.
