Menstrual migraines?

It's a glorious day. I had planned to be in the garden, pottering around. Instead I'm lying in bed, eyes closed as much as I can, feeling sick with what I am sure is a menstrual migraine, if such a thing exists? Never had these until the last couple of years but now seem to get them every month as my period starts. I'm 47, possibly perimenopausal.
Anyone else experience these and found a solution? Paracetamol does nothing. Is it something my GP will be able to do something about? Any advice gratefully received!

Yep, hormonal migraine day before/ first day of period.
Co-codamol helps, but have to take it early, as pain is starting. Once established it’s no good.

Yes, once it's set in, nothing seems to work. Will try the co-codamol tip next time , thanks!

Me too... I recommend anadin extra which is a mix of caffeine, aspirin and paracetamol. It gets rid of 80% of mine. Sumatriptan also works but I don't like the side effects. I'm just about to try naproxen as a preventive, it's also supposed to help with heavy periods.

Yes gp will be able to help. I take sumatriptan and naproxen when I get one which sadly is quite regularly Sad

I read up on this exact thing recently as realised I've developed menstrual migraines. I have migraines anyway bit am now getting them linked to my cycle and seem to get one around ovulation then a two day one immediately before menstruation starts.

I have to take sumatriptan (GP prescribed) every 4 hours approx during day on the one before menstruation as this keeps it at bay. However i now know once you've tracked cycle and migraine for a couple of months you can go to GP and show the pattern and ask to be prescribed hormone replacements or other things (there are several options if you google it)

Ah, yes.

Soluble aspirin in full fat coke.

How long do your headaches last? Mine starts on first day of period and is really painful but I seem to have a noggling head for days after

MummaPI · 28/04/2019 14:54

Obviously it's meant to be niggling 🙄

Bringbackthestripes · 28/04/2019 15:03

Speak to the dr. I am prescribed sumatriptan for my migraines. All hormonal.

MummaPI · 28/04/2019 15:30

Will do, Got an appt for a couple of weeks time. Think I could handle them if they didn't last so long

allypally999 · 28/04/2019 15:38

Mine are hormonal too - started at 36 and still get the odd one at 61. GP did help for many years with prevention and also sumatripan which I injected I was so bad. Now I am older I don't get so many or for so long though I do have one now! You should be able to find something that works for you
