Calf pain under cast

I'm hoping it might just be muscle pain but am slightly worried about dvt.

Have been in a below knee cast, non weight bearing for two weeks. Am struggling with the crutches so not bothering moving about much. Have spent the last two days in bed.

The night before last I had awful calf pain under the cast, making me cry/scream pain. But was ok yesterday morning. Injury is an ankle injury so nowhere near the calf and it's a chronic injury I've had for months and this pain is new.

Pain came back last night. Was ok if I laid down but if I was upright on my crutches was agony. Almost as if when the blood flow went into my leg as I became upright the pain increased. I would lie down and it would ease off, stand up and within 15 seconds I was screaming.

So I stayed laid down. Grin

It's still bad this morning. Calf is aching even when laid down, agony when stood up. Calf feels hot when I poke my finger down the cast but then it's in a cast! Can't tell if swollen or any redness.

Just wondering from anyone who's had a cast before is this normal?

Wasn't a clot in the end. I had a blood test which I was told was positive for a clot. Was told I had a clot.

Turns out the blood test can sometimes have a false positive. Wish they'd to,d me that before I spent 12 hours worried sick.

So now it seems like I was making a fuss and all upset over a calf cramp. Grin. Well a very extensive 36 hour cramp caused by the cast. Cast is off, calf is still stiff but improving.

But now I'm back at square one with my chronic ankle problem!

They should still do a scan though?

NicoAndTheNiners · 23/04/2019 16:15

Sorry, yes. Ended up having a scan yesterday and they couldn't see a clot.
