Headaches... any miracle cures?

Hi all,

I'm on light and smell sensitive, sicky-headache number three in one week, this is about average for me and has been for a couple of years. Nothing touches them, except downing ALL the tablets then going to sleep which obviously I can't do if it hits during the day.

So far I've tried:

Drinking a pint of water when I feel it coming on.
Lucozade.
Crisps and chocolate (for the sugar and salt).
A 4head stick.

It's not my eyes as my prescription is up to date.

I do get migraines, but they are rare and these feel different. It hurts all across my forehead and makes me feel sick.

It's reaching the point where I feel anxious about doing or planning anything in case a headache creeps in and spoils it. Sad

Does anyone have any miracle cures I can try to get me through the next two hours til the kids go to bed and I can collapse in a dark room?

I fully sympathise , I occasionally get headaches that go on for days , I find Nurofen Plus very good
Hope you feel better soon

Have you tried heat on the back of your neck. A tension headache is caused by blood not draining from the head properly because of tense neck muscles. If you lie witha hot water bottle under your neck it opens up the blood vessels

The only thing that works for me as well as the painkillers is to eat loads of stodge.

Also work out what your trigger is. If I miss a meal I will get a headache so I have to be careful to eat and drink regularly.

Also catch it early with the painkillers.

Thank you, Applejack87, I did have some Nurofen with Codeine which were awesome but I can't seem to find them in the shops nowadays.

Ohyesiam - that's a good idea, off to find my wheatbag...

Mapofthesoul - I seem to crave things like McDonalds or Nutella when I feel like this, maybe stodgy is a good idea... DH is cooking sausages and chips for tea, hopefully that might help (if I can keep it down)

I get a lot of sinus type headaches that sound similar and I mostly stave them off by taking a cetirizine tablet every day . My dh has recently started taking them as well and it’s also working for him .

Are you taking painkillers every time you have the headaches? There is something called medication overuse headache if you take painkillers more than 10-15 times a month due to a rebound effect.

If you think it is that, stopping the medication is the only way. It is horrible, but your body quickly gets over it. I found cutting out caffeine and keeping hydrated helpful too. The migraine trust has some good information on all kinds of headaches.

Getting B12 injections stopped my headaches. I was getting them pretty much daily up until then.

@Ohyesiam, Oh my God! I think I love you. I've been laid on the sofa with my wheat pack under my neck and the headache has, not gone, but faded substantially! It was almost instant!

Thank you, you utter goddess!

I’ve started taking feverfew, b2 and magnesium every night and I’ve seen an improvement in my headaches. They had become almost daily and after a week or 2 of taking this seem to be much less frequent. It’s only been a few weeks though so can’t say for sure it’ll last but am keeping my fingers crossed!
