Experiences of vasectomy

Husband is considering this but understandably nervous about the pain, complications, success rate, etc. Could I ask for your experiences of this, good or bad, so he has a wider range of experiences to consider? The few people he's spoken to haven't had great experiences which isn't helping! Thanks in advance

My husband had a vasectomy and was home by 4pm and needed no more than a couple of paracetamol for the pain. He found it an absolute walk in the park.

Dh has his under local and was in as a day patient and back home for tea. No problems since, and no babies Smile

My husband had a vasectomy and it was problem free. Easy operation. Just a local anaesthetic teeny tiny incision. No stitches.

He was a bit tender for a couple of days but could sit down and walk around etc. He attended an all day rugby tournament for our son two days after where he stood most of the day.

Dh’s Took place in the local dr surgery where there is a minor surgery department. He was in and out within an hour or two.

Ex had it done. Day patient under local, just needed paracetamol the next day. He was planning to take a week off but only took two days. And he's by no stretch of the imagination, the suffer in silence type.

My husband struggled after his. Ended up going to the gp to be signed off for an extra week, had me to go out and buy 'supportive' underwear for him. Couldn't walk/lift/cough comfortably. His balls were very bruised, he was miserable due to the pain, and it took a couple of weeks for things to get back to normal (no long lasting problems though).

Dh had one in the local hospital. A mate had to take him as we had 3 under 5 at home. He was home by lunch, they stopped and got a Maccie D's and brought none for me!, and he used some frozen peas and had some paracetamol. That was Friday morning. By Monday he went back to work (desk job). No complications. NO babies!!

iVampire · 16/04/2019 21:22

NHS say 1:10 have the serious complications (that’s probably more reliable than MN anecdotal) so I think it’s totally reasonable to be concerned

Keepithidden · 16/04/2019 21:24

I had it done a few years back, in and out of the clinic in about an hour, all under local anaesthetic. A fair amount of pain, but nothing paracetamol wouldn't shift. Was back at work in a day or so. No physical problems since.

DH had it done by our GP who is also a surgeon. Was sore for a couple of days and write right pants for a while afterwards as find them more comfy.

Biggest pain was having to provide fresh samples to the hospital to get the all clear, didn't ask too much about that. Took a bit longer than expected to get his two all clears.

Am so thankful he did it, has made a huge difference. No effect on DH at all.

^wore tight

My husband did have complications. Unless he ejaculates every three days, he'll wind up in feeling uncomfortable and sore. By day 4 he'll have soreness on ejaculation. He was one of the unlucky ones.

Closetlibrarian · 16/04/2019 21:39

DH was in and out in a matter of about 40 mins. I drove him home, but he was doing the school run about 4 hours later. A bit sore for a few days, but nothing over-the-counter painkillers couldn't manage.

Lisette1940 · 16/04/2019 21:40

As it happens my post was the one in ten case here. It's just very unfortunate and nothing can be done according to the gp. So we just manage the situation.
