When should I worry about irregular period?

My period has generally been regular, however in the last six months, maybe longer, it has been a couple of days later here and there. Currently I am 5 days late, had my normal symptoms early last week. I haven’t had sex for 2 months, and have had a period since then (last month was on time).

I know irregular periods can be the norm, but for me it never has been. Nothing else has changed or out of the ordinary - weight has stayed the same, stress no worse than usual etc. I’m 27

Should I worry/get this checked out? If so, what can I expect from a gp? Should I still go even if I get my period in the next couple of days?

Sorry last month wasn’t* on time. I’d took a pregnancy test then just incase which was negative.

hi boringly when you say "generally regular" do you mean bang on 28 days (or whatever your cycle is) or do you mean as far as you can recall they fall more or less about the same time? Only I wonder whether the slight 1/2 day shift has been present in an on/off form for longer and you've just not noticed it?

My inclination would be that 1/2 day shift is normal but if you're worried then do speak to maybe a practice nurse at the GP (at mine they deal a lot with gyne issues so perhaps may be easier to get into see)?

Mine have always been regular as anything but in the last year I have become hugely irregular. I am now going between 5-8 weeks between periods, some are light, others heavy, serious mood swings and emotional crap. The docs were fairly dismissive and told me they weren't concerned as long as they didn't actually stop. They did a bloody test which was normal but that's it. TBH I've had enough - the mood swings are horrendous to the point where my relationship has suffered. They aren't interested anymore.

I had a few years where my periods were regular to the hour (between nine and ten every fourth Friday in case you’re interested). Then they became irregular and have been ever since. Nothing wrong and nothing in particular seems to have caused it.

It's a myth that regular periods are always bang on time. Most women have cycles that vary by a couple of days.

Being 5 days late is not an issue, really.

I had a stage of my life when my cycles were always between 32 and 35 days. As I got older they changed to 30, 28 and 26 days as I got close to menopause.

The 'rule' with this is, keep a track of cycles for 6 months. if they are all over the place ( ie 2 weeks late/early) over that timescale, see your GP.
