Gap appearing in front teeth

CupoTeap · 15/04/2019 13:27

So I'm in my forties and have noticed a definite gap between my front teeth that wasn't there before.

Very nervous of the dentist but do make myself go but this has appeared since my last visit.

Any ideas?

It could be periodontal disease that's causing the drifting apart. What has your dentist said about your gum condition?

I am seeing the hygienist regularly as this is not where it should be, it's improving but not there yet.

Now I'm really worried am I going to lose from front teeth?

You need to have a discussion about this with your dentist next time. Unfortunately, It's high likely to be active periodontal disease at your age, rather than for eg relapse after fixed orthodontics.

Try not to worry, it's difficult to say without examining you in person.
But in your situation, I'd want my dentist to reassure me there definitely wasn't underlying bone loss/periodontitis causing the drifting.

Do you think I should bring my appointment forward?

Yes you need to know the diagnosis & if it is periodontal related, what you can do re very best home care eg Modified Bass Technique toothbrushing, TePes -interdental cleaning and smoking cessation ( if applicable).

Good luck x
