Hay fever in children

Help!!! Hay fever season has started and my daughter suffers really badly. Seems to mainly be early in the season - tree pollen I think - and the main symptom is itchy eyes but also gets congested and sore throat too. Just wondered if anyone has found anything that really helps. Trying to avoid antihistamines as don't agree with her.

My GP advised me to shut all windows at night time, and to clean/wipe eyes and nose with a wet flannel to remove any pollen or triggers at the end of a day.

Sometimes a cold compress also helps my DS's eyes but he does take antihistamines too as it's so bad.

Eye drops?

Dd has had hay fever since she was 6 and is now 12. It really makes her miserable. She does take Loratadine and eye drops also.

Might be good to ask a doctor’s advice.

Won't help eyes but the GP told me recently to use a cotton bid to wipe a small amount of Vaseline around the insides of the nostrils. Pollen gets stuck to it, apparently!

What happens to her if she takes antihistamines ? There are many sorts. It maybe that one suits her more than others. My son wouldn’t be able to survive hayfever without a whole concoction of medications including steroids, inhalers, antihistamines, eye drops. Have you consulted your GP?
