and the TA said she has a lot of headaches and I should take her to the doctor.

am scared now, have booked her app tomorrow - should I ask for a referral?

I took her for an eye test last week as she said her eyes had 'sticks' in them and all seemed fine - could it be tiredness? she was fine when we got home and she doesn't have headaches at home.

am also peeved that if she has 'a lot of headaches' the school haven't mentioned it till now!

she has milk in the morning and takes in water - but not sure she drinks much of it during day.

TA also said she often seems 'spaced out' - am now reading the other thread on here and wondering if it could be a sign of anything...

Dd had headaches quite often and when I took her to the doctor she sent me on to get eyes, teeth and ears checked by different specialists. None of them found anything wrong so went back to the doctor who did a blood test and said she had a slight iron deficiency which can cause headaches. She was also not drinking enough.

right, interesting...

she had eye test last week (fine), dentist yesterday... Ears may be an issue as she did have glue ear for a while as a baby and recently had complained of it being bunged up (saw dr who gave her ear drops) ALSO have deafness in our family - she was screened as a baby though...?

she also says her nose has been blocked up and her eyes hurt/sting sometimes.

worried for her - what if it is something sinister??

I got loads of headaches when I was around this age and was referred to a specialist (can't remember which one -sorry) they found that although I could see perfectly well from both eyes, they just didn't work toether properly. I had to read with a bar infront of the writing and do lollipop stick exercises to train my eyes. Didn't have to wear glasses.

Would help to know when the other ones have been to look for any pattern. Could it be light reflecting off a board/screen or physical activity before lunch making her kight headed. Have you had her ears checked recently in case fluid is causing an imbalance or "noise".

SpacePuppy · 12/07/2007 19:18

hay fever or cold? locked nose and headache accounts for both, stinging eyes can be hay fever.

muppetgirl · 12/07/2007 19:19

Does she have an interactive whiteboard in her classroom? There is some idea that the wireless network thingy can cause headaches...

dinny · 12/07/2007 19:19

think TA said ot totally off the cuff as nothing's been mentioned before, so they won't know when but will ask them to keep record from now on.

she did have a very blocked ear recently that she needed ear drops for - maybe it's not better, could that cause headaches?

OP posts:
dinny · 12/07/2007 19:21

yes, she does have whiteboard - how the heck would I get round that? or prove it....? wouldn't surprise me if it was linked!

she does have a bit of a cold, we all do - I'd presume it was that, but for the TA saying she has a lot of headaches and should go to the dr.

maybe she is in the habit of saying she has headaches at school - could be another reason to do with maybe not wanting to do something?

If hse hasn't told you at home can it be bothering her that much?

We have a TA at our school who gives out quite a lot of 'advice' - not always the best.

What is the TA like?

dinny · 12/07/2007 19:25

TA sais she noticed her being spaced out and quiet and asked her if she was Ok and dd said she had a headache. she has since told dh that it was too noisy in the lunch hall.

TA is nice but probably doesn't really understand dd that much - she is not a running-round-screaming kind of kid, and hates noise (unless she is making it, IF she's in the mood)

Just done a quick google for interactive whiteboards causing headaches, lots of stuff reagrding not facing the beam, not having white as a background colour as can cause eyestrain etc. Also not good for autistic children as can cause sensory overload.

Might be worth looking to where she is seated with regard to the whiteboard...

dinny · 12/07/2007 19:42

oh, thanks Muppetgirl, she sits at the front table, actually, so it may be worth moving her....

just feel she is quite an intense little girl in many ways and likes to concentrate on one thing, not run round madly like most of the other kids.

well, will ask teacher about it all on Monday (going to keep dd off tomorrow - hurrah!)

Do they have snack time at school? Sometimes a dip in your blood sugar levels can cause headaches and vagueness. A child in DS's class has to eat every two hours.

dinny · 12/07/2007 20:04

yes, and they have milk too - but she does have to eat regularly as she gets so tired and irritable if she doesn't....

do any primary school kids go home for lunch these days?

OP posts:
Kbear · 12/07/2007 20:15

some do at my DCs schools although I think they prefer it if they don't.

dinny · 12/07/2007 20:16

God, am tempted - we live practically next door. Can they stop you doing it?

can you get sinus headaches at that age? her description of the pain sounds very much like what I feel when I have one
(and would chime in with the nasal congestion)

muppetgirl · 12/07/2007 20:19

I seem to rememebr we had one girl who went home for lunch -as long as the head is happy etc...

dinny · 12/07/2007 20:30

hmm, had wondered about sinuses

surely her teacher would have spoken to me about headaches if they were very common?

will see her Monday and ask!
