I broke my fibula just above the ankle 2.5 weeks ago. After 9 days I was asked to go back for an xray to see if the bone had shifted because they weren't sure whether it was a stable or unstable fracture. The xray showed it had shifted and I was advised I should have surgery to repair it or risk arthritis in that ankle.
At the same time though I complained of pain in my calf so was booked in for an ultrasound which returned a DVT, despite having been put on blood thinners.
So they've upped my dose and I returned to the fracture clinic on Friday and I was told they won't operate on my ankle as the DVT carries too much risk. Absolutely fair enough, totally understand that. But I was booked in for another xray on my ankle for tomorrow and I just don't know what they hope to achieve with the xray. I don't have another ultrasound booked, so they've no way of knowing if the dvt has cleared.
Anyone been in a similar situation? Are they just likely to advise no further action for the foreseeable future, or might they re-break and reset my bone in a few months instead, after the dvt has dissolved? The departments don't seem to be taking well to one another at all.
