Who does he think he is??????????

I am beside myself with rage. He doesn't like giving it without a prescription. Well I'm sorry but its not a prescription drug so I don't need one. Still refused, now I will have to try Tescos.

But some of the girls at work have struggled getting it there. I don't understand why if its not a prescription drug can they refuse?

I have no medical conditions that contraindicate me from taking it!

I was told that it was a prescription drug, but fortunately a friend was a doctor who prescribed it for me. Do you want it for travelling (as a sedative)? If you can get hold of some, you can buy Dozol in Ireland which is the same type of stuff as Phenargen, and comes over the counter.

FWIW, neither worked on either of my 2 DDs. In fact, DD2 was an absolute nightmare on it as it made her very tired but she would not sleep. Try travelling with a seriously over-tired toddler and no extra pair of adult hands to help you and you may regret your decision!

I used to work in a chemist and there are load of drugs that are "pharmacy only" items ie. the pharmacist has to be aware of you selling them. If he is not happy with you taking this drugg then it is his registration at risk. It's a bit like demanding the dr give you a prescription - these are highly trained professionals and you have to respect their advice/opinion.

GrowlingTiger · 12/07/2007 11:35

Did he offer you an alternative, or just send you back to the GP?

katelyle · 12/07/2007 11:42

I is for the children or for you? If it's for children, then IMHO the pharmacist is only doing his job. Sorry - shoot me if you like!

Its for me, I work nights at a hospital and struggle sleeping during the day. I only need it about twice a month.

I bought some phenergan in the supermarket pharmacy about 2 months ago. gp said it was cheaper for me than paying for a script.

StripeyBroomstickSpottyWand · 12/07/2007 11:52

And no he didn't offer me an alternative. It is definetly non-prescription as one of my mates got some in Boots a few weeks ago. Its just such a pain to get hold of we all end up swopping tablets at work when someone has got it. Most of the SHOs I know take it.

The NHS stuffs your natural sleeping rhythm up and then doesn't provide tablets to help

Have you tried Nytol? My mum swears by it!

janinlondon · 12/07/2007 13:06

Bought some for DD for travel sickness twenty minutes ago - no prescription - central London.

ManxMum · 12/07/2007 13:11

Have you tried melatonin? prescription only, but it is natural and works by increasing the bodies natural levels of the sleep hormone. Works great on my son!

Spockster · 12/07/2007 13:24

Get an SHO to write you a private prescription (or do it yourself if you are a doc...; avoids a trip to the GP and will probably be cheaper than a prescription charge.

Nice lady at Tescos gave me some, only asked me if I was on any other meds. No problems.

No small business owner has to sell you something if they don't want to. Why should a pharmacist be any different?

John what are you on about Confused

Glad you got the pills. Cyclisine can also be sold by the pharmacist without a script at their discretion. Say it is for nausea. Also bucastem for migraines has prochloperazine for nausea but knocks you out (if you aren't used to it)
