i dont know if they give other meds that young. you can ask though no harm in asking. dont wait for them to offer, always ask questions and always explore the alternatives. can i ask where you live? (nosey)

My ds had this, he was premature and in SCBU so thank god we never had to worry about him stopping breathing at home but he went blue quite often in SCBU and was on oxygen for several weeks. He was on gaviscon, ranitidine and domperidone. Maybe you can go back to your GP and see if they will prescribe for you, or ask to see the consultant sooner. Ds also had trouble with his chest, the milk would come up from his stomach and go back into his lungs and he got pneumonia. Good news is he grew out of it very quickly though, I think he was off all meds by 3 months and is now 11 months and completely fine although still pretty snuffly.

You could put books under the legs of her cot to tilt up her head. Also I used a sling a lot so that ds could nap completely upright during the day and we held him upright for 30mins after every feed.

It must be very worrying for you, hope you manage to get seen soon.

Sorry x posted with elesbellsrae, ranitidine and domperidone can definitely be given to very young babies as ds was on them before his due date.

Its horrible, trace, so sorry your dd has it. My dd has silent reflux, but its a lot better now - she's 7.5 months - and some of that is down to meds: she's on Ranitidine (helps a lot with the pain) and Domperidone (helps them digest faster, so they don't 'back up' with milk). She was put on these at 8 weeks, when she was diagnosed with a 'floppy larynx' - laryngomalacia - which will sort itself out in time, but basically makes things worse breathing-wise for the first year.

Gaviscon helped my dd not throw up, but did nothing for her pain or digestion - I strongly recommend asking paeds and/or GP for Ranitidine and Domperidone. Or at least Ranitidine.

The only other things I can add, helpwise, are that my dd still sleeps on a slope (pillow under mattress) and used to sleep better in her bouncy chair, placed in her cot for safety. She had bronchiolitis at 4 weeks (very seriously) and her breathing was rubbish for ages, due to her larynx problems - and the reflux. The meds helped her breathing problems as well as her pain, as acid reflux swells up tissues which then block her already small windpipe.

She also did better with lots of small feeds, no big ones. And being held upright for quite a while after a feed. And being patted under the bum or just sat forward to burp - not patted on the back, which pushes acid up at the same time.

Am rushing, sorry, hope some of this makes sense - I know how scary it is, and how stressful and upsetting, and really hope things improve soon! xxx

oh trace, sorry, just saw your second post...poor mite, hope she's all better soon. dd was in HDU for a week when one month old, I know how horrible it is seeing them sick. Try and take care of yourself while she's ill - its sooo easy to knacker oneself, but hard to recover from that on top of all the emotional stress later.

thanks all for your surport, dd came home last night wayhay! with antibiotic long term they was giving her through a canular while was in and this morning had to give orally( she dont like and spit it all out) they now holding off giving her other meds for reflux as they can made her antibiotics not work.

she as to have a dye put in her kidneys in two months to see if they working as her wee seams to back up in her system. to make matters worse she had blood in her poo yesterday lotas of it too, so now testing that too
