Cellulitis-I feel so ill

IamEarthymama · 25/03/2019 09:50

I had cellulitis in my ankle, spreading up my leg last year.the infection got in through psoriasis on my foot. I walked around on it with no treatment for 3 months as doctor thought it was a sprain.

I had about 5 courses of antibiotics and looked after psoriasis really well and it cleared though the red line on my ankle did not disappear.

It's back with a vengeance, 5 weeks now. I am on my second course of doxycycline, which I have to take with an anti-emetic as I am allergic to lots of ABs. My leg is painful and hot, swollen and numb. I feel as though I have the flu with no sneezing. Not a cold the flu.

I can't stay off work, people depend on me, (this is true, I am not exaggerating) I work at home so that helps but I have to be up and about.

I am trying to make an appointment at my GPs, but struggling to get through.
What shall I say to her?

I would prefer an intense intravenous course of ABs to get to the root of the infection. Would that work with my reaction, could I also have an anti-emetic?

Please just go to a and e.

Weirdlookingbricks · 25/03/2019 19:02

Go to A and E please. I ended up in hospital on iv antibiotics for a week after misdiagnosed cellulitis and I didn't even feel unwell. I was told in no uncertain terms that I shouldn't 'mess about' getting a GP appointment in future but go straight in. I needed to do just that a few months later too.
Please go.

donajimena · 25/03/2019 19:07

I hope you have gone to A & E. Your GP doesn't sound great. They can sometimes get it wrong..

CrepuscularCritter · 25/03/2019 19:27

I hope you've gone to A&E. I ended up on IV antibiotics for 24 hours, then flucloxicillin with additional anti-emetics. It also came in via psoriasis on my foot. Definitely get it checked out; once I got proper treatment, the improvement was really speedy.

YouBoggleMyMind · 25/03/2019 20:21

Go to A&E, you do not want this to cause sepsis! I hope you're being looked after a

GetOffTheRoof · 26/03/2019 08:03

How are you feeling this morning? Did you get seen?

HotpotLawyer · 26/03/2019 08:20

OP, this sounds horrible, you poor thing.

The sweating sounds worrying to me.

Did the GP take your blood pressure? Or ask for a blood test?

You can get organ failure from sepsis.

(NB I have no medical qualifications whatsoever).

Sorry, I have just got back from the doctors. I had a bad night, awful dreams and sweaty or shivering. I rang NHS Direct this morning and they told me to get in touch with the surgery for another appointment.
I couldn't get through so I went to the centre and a wonderful receptionist manages to get me in to see a doctor straight away. He checked me over and decided that yes, i do have cellulitis, it has spread but seems to be contained (I had marked it with a pen).

I was coughing a little so he thinks I have a viral infection and maybe sinusitis (I often have this)
He has asked that I take paracetamol regularly and continue with double dose of antibiotics
I have an appointment with Dr Lovely next Monday so they will check then. If swelling, redness etc gets bigger or if I don't improve I can go back at any time.

I am ok with this, I know they know it is cellulitis despite the other GP making me doubt myself and I can call on them or go to hospital without feeling as though I am wasting valuable NHS resources.

Thank you all, you vipers, for your support and sharing your stories. I promise you that I will go straight to hospital tomorrow morning if I feel as awful as I did yesterday.
I also added turmeric to my food and drank some cider vinegar and washed my psoriatic skin in diluted tea tree oil this morning. I felt so scared and ill that my usual belt and braces approach abandoned me.

I am sat feet up in the garden, wishing I had the energy to do some tidying but immensely grateful for the NHS, and the Welfare State, determined to fight to protect it and glad to have access to the kindness of strangers through the weaving of the web.
Here's a picture to show my gratitude 😊
Love and Blessings, Earthy xx

Keep your feet up! Don't do any chores. I'm glad you feel a bit better.

TapasForTwo · 26/03/2019 17:50

Hope you feel better soon. Jealous that it is warm enough to sit in the garden where you are.

MrsJayy · 26/03/2019 22:40

Och i am glad you got sorted out and I hope you get better soon stay cosy don't worry about tidying up or your job it willbe there when you are better.

Alwaysnamechangingx · 28/03/2019 21:10

How are you now op?

IamEarthymama · 29/03/2019 23:35

Thanks all for asking, I am feeling better, mostly because of the paracetamol I think as I don't keep shivering and sweating.
I have done some gardening, I run a project at a community centre and founders are visiting soon. Otherwise, I have been resting
I have a political meeting in the morning and then might do some canvassing if my leg feels better.
Thank you all again for your support. I am definitely asking for bloods to be done as I have lots of immunity issues

I hope everyone has been enjoying this glorious weather 😊👩🏼‍🌾😊
