Trapped wind - middle of the night fixes

I woke up with such stomach pains last night I thought I would need an ambulance. Some googling and realised it was trapped wind. Had two Rennie, massages my tummy for half an hour, sipped hot water and gradually managed to get back to sleep. But oh oh the pain was immense.
Any suggestions if it happens again - what is the best medicine to have in stock? I thought it might be appendicitis it was so bad.

I find senocalm quite good. I suffer with IBS so I know your pain (literally) though I don't usually get middle of the night pain. Peppermint capsules (colpermin) are good too but more effective of taken for a few days in a row. You could also try peppermint/chamomile or lemon and ginger tea

Try this, I don't know why but it works for me and DS, kneel down, then lean forward until your head and hands touch the floor and raise your bottom up.

Yy @Traccs is right I was advised the same position by a nurse and it often does work

I had terrible nighttime heart burn when I had the flu after Christmas. I was told to lie on my left side with my knees up to my chest. That helps take the pressure off the abdomen.

The above are helpful but fairly slow in working.

Honestly? Quickest best remedy chug a can of caffeinated fizzy drink as quickly as possible, no idea why it has to be caffeinated but non caffeinated just doesn't work. You'll then do a massive burp or fart - instant relief!

I've heard baking soda works in a similar way - teaspoon in a small tumbler of cold water.

Are you sure it was wind and not gallbladder pain? I had a few episodes of extreme pain like you describe (honestly worse than labour!) and was then diagnosed with gallstones and he gallbladder removed.

Deminism · 23/03/2019 13:58

Thanks all. I wondered that re gall bladder but i spent all of yesterday passing wind Blush and now feel better.

Peppermint cordial & soda water or peppermint tea as hot as you can drink it. Both work every time.
