I've had a painful ankle for months. Had MRI with conflicting results, am awaiting a third opinion. There's something wrong with my tendon.

Been walking today and ankle is bruised in line with tendon. Exceedingly painful and weirdly painful also to gentle touch on the skin which it never has been before. Google suggests it could be a total tendon rupture and to seek urgent medical attention to prevent permanent damage.

I'm struggling to weight bear and can't really move my foot well. But I'm thinking an evening of icing and elevation may help? Hang in will add photo in the comments.

I do wonder if it dislocates/subluxation because I can feel and hear it twanging at times. Told the consultant that in fracture clinic a couple of weeks ago and he shrugged and said no sign of that in the mri. But the mri was done in December and it wasnt twanging in December. Maybe it's just subluxated too much and caused bruising? Ankle is very swollen.

Agee that A and E will
Only X-ray you and not necessarily scan for damage . It’s so frustrating . Can you shell
Out for a decent physio ? As they might be a decent port of call for short term relief

Fuck knows what we are supposed to do with these painful minor injuries

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 20/03/2019 21:31

You need to get up the food chain faster and even if a
Physio gives you a
Report might help

Chickenvindasaag · 20/03/2019 21:35

So you have a chronic problem that walking has aggravated? See your GP, not a job for A&E.

NicoAndTheNiners · 20/03/2019 21:47

The GP won't be able to do anything. I do have a chronic problem but I wouldn't say it's been aggravated. It's on a whole new level and google suggests it could be an emergency which needs urgent treatment to prevent permanent problems.

And on holiday at 5pm in a very rural area I don't think I'm going to find a GP 300 miles from home. I also think I need crutches.

are you in the UK?
You say it's 5pm yet your post is at almost 22.00hrs.

You can use a GP as a visitor to an area. You register as a temporary resident- this is normal for anyone on holiday.

If you can't drive, order a taxi.

Even if you go to A&E what can they do? If you need an operation you will have to get home, not have it in your holiday area. Have you got private holiday insurance to cover loss of holiday or additional transport?

NicoAndTheNiners · 20/03/2019 22:04

Yeah that's why I've decided to go home tomorrow. I'm the U.K., problem became apparent just before 5pm. Where I live the GPs close at 5pm/6pm so didnt think that was an option.

From what google was saying I was worried it needed sorting tonight but am risking waiting until tomorrow. I've got a good physio back home so will ring them tomorrow as well.

You're not responding to the comments about not driving?

Lumene · 20/03/2019 22:17

If you are in UK 111 will be able to tell you what your nearest options are. They may be able to connect you to a nurse or dr over the phone who can advise on urgency.

NicoAndTheNiners · 20/03/2019 22:21

Sorry, car is automatic and it's my left foot so I can accelerate and do emergency stop with right fine.

Seeing as you’ve had little joy with your local drs, I’d present to the minor injuries/A&E in your holiday location. They might have an alternative opinion?

BlackeyedGruesome · 20/03/2019 23:06

holiday hospital location might be your way to a third opinion.

SleepWarrior · 24/03/2019 00:36

How are you doing op? Did you make it home and get it checked out?

NicoAndTheNiners · 24/03/2019 07:27

Hi, yes am ok thanks. Got home, went to minor injuries. Got crutches. They think I have fully ruptured the tendon so I guess the ct scan in a few days will tell for sure. It's actually a lot better than it was, the swelling has gone down and it's not nearly as painful as it was on Weds.

SleepWarrior · 25/03/2019 01:24

Glad you made it home and that you're getting the care you need. Hoping for your sake that it's not a full rupture Sad
