Eye tests and diabetes / glaucoma

Hi - i have a close family history of diabetes and glaucoma, but not diagnosed with either myself. Can I get free eye tests and if so, every year or every other year?

I think it’s only people of 40 or over with a first order relative ( parent, sibling) diagnosed with glaucoma that get an nhs sight test, in England. Rules are different in other UK countries. I could be out of date.

My Mum has glaucoma and now I'm over 40 I get free eye tests.

My dad had glaucoma & Ive always had free eye tests because of it. Definitely didn’t wait until I was o we 40.
My dad was 36 when he got it.

Maggiso is correct, it's only those over 40 with a close relative (parent, sibling) who get eye examinations on the NHS and it's based on clinical need. So every 1-2 years depending on the advice of the Optometrist.

But, if you're having problems with your sight, you should contact your usual practice and ask to be seen sooner.
