I've got to have an impacted tooth removed and I am wondering what will happen?

Do you have to have general anaesthic?

How long are you out of action for (ie. how lnog does DH have to take off work?)

Any other general info really.

Hi, I had all four wisdom teeth out a few years ago. I was sedated so was 'out of it' kind of drunk. I had them taken out in two's uppers, then lowers. First time I don't remember anything of the procedure. My dh walked me home as we lived around the corner from the dentist. He said I was very 'drunk', saying wierd stuff I cannot remember and spitting blood out on the pavement (nice sight). I went home straight to bed and slept it off. When I woke up I didn't really remember much apart from ging into the dentist. The next time I went in one of the teeth was not through very much and they had to do what they could to get at it so to speak. I was slightly aware of this and felt the pulling and so on. I remember moaning while this was going on. After this, I slept it off again but spent 3 days at home afterwards as my face was so swollen I looked like Bo Selecta! So really your dh needs a day or afternoon off work but thats all, once the sedation wears off you can go about normal activities. Good luck and I'm sure you'll be fine. For me it was such a relief to get rid if my wisdom teeth as they were causing me so much pain!

Can I just add my sil had a wisdom tooth out a few weeks ago and wasn't sedated - she just had it all numbed and was fine.

I had 2 out on the r.h side 11 years ago-the right lower one was impacted. I didn't feel any pain at the time, but I don't think the sedation worked that well (certainly no feelings of being drunk!), as I was well aware of what was going on. DH took the afternoon off (it was done on a Friday afternoon) mainly because they didn't want me to drive home afterwards.
I didn't sleep afterwards but I was in agony once the local anaesthetic wore off and I had to take painkillers for 2 days. I'd get the dentist to give you a prescription for some powerful painkillers just in case. They also gave me some antibiotics to prevent infection.
