Sore white spots on tongue and back of throat

I have a bad head cold abs sore throat. Tongue started getting sore last night, thought it was just dry from mouth breathing but checked it tonight and there are spots all over the bank of it and on my throat. Is it worth getting it checked fir step throat (do they do anything if it is?) or thrush? Don’t like wasting docs time especially on a weekend. Thanks

Depends how bad it is. If you can breathe and swallow ok, and keep the pain under control with paracetamol/iboprufen/codeine I might wait and see how it goes. You can get advice from pharmacist or 111. If it's thrush live yoghurt, vinegar or lemon juice gargle may help.
If not definately go to drop in if there is one, contact gp out of hours who can sometimes give urgent appointment, or even a & e if it's really vicious. Hope soon better

Could be tonsillitis, that’s how mine started. Mine became really painful so I went to the out of hours service at the weekend and was prescribed antibiotics. You’ll definitely know if it’s tonsilitis - painful!

Thank you... It’s sore but not unbearably so, taking cocodamol regularly. Might see if pharmacist can prescribe thrush medicine, though if it’s tonsilitis that won’t help!

You can alternate with iboprufen which is anti inflammatory.

Put some boiling water into a mug with salt, let it cool a bit then gargle with it, it'll help ease the pain.

Thank you...will try both those

You need to get it looked at. If it is bacterial tonsillitis (strep throat), it's best to get antibiotics to avoid complications.

Not really. It may clear itself. If it's getting worse or doesn't start to get better in a few days see gp
