Underactive thyroid?

I have a doctors appointment on Tuesday so will be getting bloods taken. But wondering what you think of these symptoms.

Tiredness (and struggling to sleep)
Stressed
Depressed
Weight stays the same (well despite regular exercise which is cardio and weights basically I cannot lose weight and haven't for months)
I have had constant colds/flu since about October last year, mostly flu, despite getting the flu jab
I have been suffering badly from acid reflux over the last year too, although I think it's the stress doing that

Could this be related to underactive thyroid? I know some of them do, but all? I did used to be anaemic as a teenager and I am very pale, so could be both?

Or just stress related?

I don't eat badly really, I get exercise every day of the week for at least an hour, sometimes two hours. It's the constant sickness that I can't keep having, my work really isn't happy at me taking so many days off and now even with flu I have to go in even if I can't do the job properly. But this can't be normal at my age and fitness level to be this ill all the time. I'm just under 30! It's worrying me.

Any advice?

Deadbydaylight I've often wondered about having an under active thyroid as my weight stays the same despite watching what I eat and walking every day. I am a lot older than you so they say it's not easy to lose weight then as muscle has been replaced by fat by now. I have regular blood tests being on medication but people tell me that unless you have specific blood tests for the thyroid you wouldn't know. As for the other symptoms I would say they are stress related, so yes you'll have a clearer picture once you have seen the GP.

I’d say get a full blood test, including thyroid from your GP. I’m older too, and mine failed over time, but was only discovered when I was tested for something else. If it comes back ok, make it something you have retested every few years.
In the meantime, ease up, eat well, get enough sleep. Look after yourself. I think we all try to do too much!

Well had bloods taken so hopefully get the results in a few days.

Doctor basically just tried fobbing me off again. Apparently it's normal at my age to be this ill all the time. Yeah I don't think so.

Hopefully the results show something. I think more likely anaemia.

I’m interested to hear the results. Keep us up to date!

Deadbydaylight · 20/03/2019 20:53

Shall do. They are sending the results by text, quite surprised at that.

Got the results back, got low iron levels so on iron tablets now for 3 months. Smile

Well, that will explain how you feel. I’m so glad you got an answer, and that it’s fixable, and you were right, you are anaemic!
I had it once, after childbirth. It sounds like you might need a yearly blood test to ensure it doesn’t happen again. Only other thing is iron tablets sometimes lead to constipation (oh joy), so you might need to watch out for that. Anyway, I hope you feel better, and back to your old self soon!

Oh goodie a side effect. Grin I'm getting a second test in 3 months time after taking the medication for 3 months. Gonna try to change my diet too as I hate taking pills and 3 a day sucks. Although he said after 3 months I may only need 1 a day. But still... Changing diet would be better.
