i think yes to both, i was speaking to a dr friend when DD had hers - she said that at her practice they were having to re do a lot of the ones who had singles. So im not sure if they have to have boosters but can definately have a blood test to see if the antibody count is high enough. I THINK

If you do have the blood test to see if you are immune, does this have to be done privately or can your GP do this?

DS1 had the MMR jab when he was 1 and had a really bad reaction at the time though was fine after about 3 weeks. I really don't want him to have the booster as the nurse said that there was no guarantee that he would not have a similar reaction again. If he did need a booster I would pay for singles.

We had a letter re single boosters, about 18 months after the primary ojes were given.

hmm

Not sure really what to do then

Taking blood such a palaver etc I don't want to upset her But then again I don't want her unnecessarily vaccinated either

My private GP told me no need to bother with boosters after single jabs.

CountessDracula · 09/07/2007 18:28

really? So are they more reliable did he think?

He seemed to think so. He also said that boosters aren't needed for 99.9% of the population, but their main purpose is to catch the kids who don't get their first jabs.

We are part way through having the single jabs (first time round, not booster stage).

The hospital where I had it done (Breakspear) will give the booster shots or do the blood test to check for immunity.

They do say, however, that even if your LO has a blood test now and is shown to be immune to the diseases, this immunity is as at the current time and may not last her into adulthood.

IMO, it is best to get the boosters, especially as she is a girl and the immunity she will need against rubella is for her own pregnancies as an adult.

I have put a link to the hospital's info, I may not have been able to get it to the coorect page, but if you go to "Treatments", then "Individual MMR", then click on the booster section, you'll find it.
