So tired. History of M.E

I don't know what to do!
I'm really really tired all the time. I have a 3month old who is a great sleeper at night (at the moment!) and an older child who sleeps fine, so I'm getting an ok night's sleep, but I'm just so so tired all the time. I've been to the Drs and he did all the usual blood tests, everything normal. I'm taking a multivitamin. I'm on the contraceptive pill and a lose dose of sertraline for pnd. I had M.E when k was younger and I'm getting scared now it's on its way back.
I don't know what else I can try. Has anyone got any advice?

I’m very sorry to hear this. I have M.E. so know what it is like. A few thoughts:

  • Could sertraline have a side effect of tiredness? If so, maybe worth discussing with your doctor whether to switch to, say, fluoxetine, which is energising.
  • Given that depression decreases energy levels, and looking after two young children is exhausting, the fact that you’re dealing with those two things at the same time could be the cause of the exhaustion.
  • Do you get any chance to rest in the daytime? Presumably you’ve thought of this, but even if it’s a struggle financially, could you get some help with childcare for a bit (if you don’t already have it), to give yourself a chance to rest? As I’m sure you know, if it is M.E. making a comeback then getting some rest at this point would be the best way of ensuring it doesn’t get worse.
Good luck! 🌸

Hello, fellow ME sufferer here. How are you feeling now?

How long are you sleeping at night? I sleep 11-12 hours every night and still feel like a car crash in the morning. Unrestorative sleep is a giveaway for ME
Also post exertional malaise- what happens if you go for a long walk, do you crash the next day?

Small children are exhausting so it's a grey area really.
