i had my wisdom tooth extracted on the 29th of june and have been in agony ever since, i have had amoxycillin but still in pain, have temperature and my ear is hurting, so i phoned my usual dentist and he said it sounds like a dry socket and to get onto the hospital straightaway.
so i have and i have an appointment tomorrow, the dentist nurse said it will only be a 5 minute "procedure".
so im sat here thinking procedure?
and ive googled but cant find anything to tell me what they do etc.
can anyone advise?

oh dry socket is horrible, I had one earlier this year.
what they will do is pack the socket with this brown hairy stuff with a very strong taste. I think it's like a local anaesthetic and antibiotic thing.
you may have to have it packed a couple of times- mine kept falling out, but it did work although the socket took ages to finally heal completely

I had a dry socket and like fingerwoman had the brown hairy stuff and it also kept falling out. It took a few months to heal and I had splinters of tooth or bone comeing out for ages. Eventually the hole did fill in completely.

Also, the dentist who took my teeth out dealt with it, I didn't have to go to the hospital so I dont know if there is anything they will do different.

My dentist appt is in 2 weeks, I don't want to go now. I think my gums are receding and I have sensitive teeth.

oh no, brown hairy stuff?
i wonder if they will just give me strong painkillers as one link ive read says it will heal by itself and sometimes the brown stuff makes the pain worse.

no, the brown stuff is really nice, honestly. MIne felt sooooo much better once it was in.
it does sound horrible, but it really isn't that bad
