Any idea whats wrong with DH?

DH has been 'ill' with various colds and viruses, fevers and sore thorats / chesty coughs straight for around 4 months now (since before xmas at least) - now we do have a 1 year old so that certainly attributes to some of this.

He just looks so unwell and pale and he's noticeably lost weight. He is constantly coughing up yellow mucus, its even on his pillow in the morning sometimes. His throat is always swolen and red and his tonsils are huge with pus on them sometimes. He now has a swollen and sore tongue with infected taste buds and we noticed right at the back under his tongue he has some kind of yellow bump (possibly a lesion or abscess) He says he feels awful and even after 8-10 hours sleep he still feels knackered - he's usually the one happy with 6 hours sleep and he almost never naps. Not sure if its related but he's had really dry, red eyes for the past 6 months or so also (he wears contacts)

He's been to the doctors 3-4 times now and they always just say its nothing treatable. He went back this week and saw a nurse who looked at his tongue and said 'oh thats just some kind of lesion" like it was the most normal thing in the world. Something is not right here, we pushed for a blood test and have one next week.

Any ideas in the mean time?

They've never offered him antibiotics with visible pus on his tonsils? I'd imagine he has some kind of strep throat infection!

@Nogodsnomasters

They always say it’s not that bad and will clear up on its own... but it hasn’t!

No idea I'm afraid, but hopefully the blood test will shed some light on it. A bit shit that its taken you pushing for it before they would do a blood test, but it seems the way it goes now.

Can he see a dentist about the 'lesion' instead? If the GP doesn't know what it is then a dentist may be a better option.

notapizzaeater · 13/03/2019 23:23

Haven't they suggested a chest X-ray if he's been coughing that long ?

Lumene · 13/03/2019 23:25

Good idea about dentist Ella

I agree with pp. persistent cough alongside fatigue and weight loss are serious symptoms and I would have thought require some proper investigation. And the mouth lesion needs to be looked at by someone who knows what they're looking at. Saying 'it's just a lesion' is crap and not a diagnosis. I hope you get some answers soon OP.

My goodness I would ask outright for an antibiotic and if they refuse then I'd try the out of hours doctor one weekend or evening and see if they will budge on the antibiotics front. He definitely has something bacterial, a virus would not last 4 months straight unless he had a compromised immune system or something.

Poor man, it must be miserable and it's so frustrating when doctors and nurses seem to just brush it off, I know, we've all been there! I guess it must be unpleasant and difficult for him to eat and drink anything which wont help him. I'd be inclined to go to hospital for a check up, explain hes seen the doctor but you're not getting anywhere.
