Is it okay to go to doctors with a head cold leading to some SOB and coughing up yellow mucus?

Hate to bother them unnecessarily but should I go for some antibiotics? Or are you meant to leave it a while first to see if it gets better on its own?

How long have you had a productive cough for?

And how sob are you?

Yellow sputum isn't too much of a drama, it's the dark green stuff you can stick on the ceiling they get excited about.

MamaGfrances · 09/07/2007 13:23

er I don' tknow what sob means
but if your mucus is bright yellow i think taht means you've got an infectino

LaylaandSethsmum · 09/07/2007 13:24

It will probably clear up on its own but if its no better in a week it may be worth a trip.

SOB - shortness of breath

Only 48 hours Slubber (I'm a wimp, me)

OK so don't bother GP for a few days.

In the mean time is it a reasonable excuse for not doing much house work do you think?

48hrs, no don't bother imo.

fluids + +, paracetamol, rest, regular steamings with vicks or that other stuff that cleans out your sinuses.

Thanks......hack hack (pitiful coughing sound designed to elicit sympathy)

I'll just soldier on then like a trooper

Yes, it's probably best. Forgot to add chocolate to the list of essentials.

can you get to the end of a sentence without gasping for breath? is tht what you mean by SOB?

Personally I never take SOB and productive coughs lightly .. not since 2 years ago when I was totally screwed by a chest infection that got hold of me (totally screwed .. couldn't look after kids for 6 weeks .. ambulanced into hospital with flashing light .. 2 weeks convascelence and almost a year to recover properly)

handlemecarefully · 09/07/2007 14:44

Not that bad Twiglett. I get short of breath after light exertion (but generally, as a runner I am fairly fit so wouldn't expect to get SOB in those circumstance)

I'd keep a close eye on it tbh and if it gets worse I'd get it checked out .. honestly I had a year of hell with mine

When I'm feeling 'chesty' I try to sing "I don't care what the weather man says, when the weather man says its raining" .. if I can get to the end easily then I don't concern myself unduly

Twiglett · 09/07/2007 14:55

I find that more useful than the blowy-out thing the GP gave me (asthma monitor for breath force .. I'm sure it has a real name)

HTH

handlemecarefully · 09/07/2007 15:58

lol at your weatherman ditty test!

I've just tried it and am okay so far. Will monitor

how are you feeling today?

handlemecarefully · 10/07/2007 18:56

Thanks for asking Twig!

Same on SOB (not too bad going by your test)
Bit more lively
But greater quantities of mucus being coughed up [bleurrgh]
