Could this be sinusitis??

So, I've been going a bit crazy lately! After weeks of daily headaches and some other strange symptoms I'd totally convinced myself I had a brain tumor or something equally awful. I'm trying to explore the more logical options while I await a neurology appointment and wondered if my symptoms could be sinus related?

I started having frequent headaches, normally over/around one eye (don't think they are migraine as more of a dull persistent ache), eye pain (a horrible bruised feeling especially when looking to the side, again mostly in one eye) and a twitch(in the same eye). Also had pain across my forehead and occasionally bridge of nose and face. No obvious congested or blocked/runny nose though. Just before this I'd had a bug/virus and a couple of weeks before that I'd had a head cold and nasty cough.

After about a month of the headaches and eye pain getting increasingly worse and more frequent, they suddenly eased off. For about 2 weeks I only had the occasional mild headache and the achey eye feeling. Now they are back :( This time I do have a cold/cough but as that's clearing up the headache and face pain only seems to be getting worse. Quite often the area where my eyebrows are and the bit between my nose and eye feels tender to touch, even if I don't have a headache.

Could this be some sort of sinus issue do you think? Is it possible to have a sinus problem without runny nose etc and would it come and go like this rather than just being constant? If so what can I try to get rid of it?

Really appreciate anyone who has made it to the end of my ramblings and any replies!

Thanks wineandsunshine I had considered migraine but I wouldn’t say the pain was bad enough. I suffered as a child and they were a lot worse than the headaches I’m getting now. A few weeks before it all started I did have a weird episode that the dr said was aura without migraine though (I’ve never had an aura migraine before) so possibly there could be a link I guess. How were you eventually diagnosed? Is it a case of eliminating other things?

Interesting...I am currently having a flare up some similar symptoms-of nasal cogestion “feeling” but no build up of mucus or infection, pain around eye sockets and across eyes.I seem to get this at this time of year .After trips to various doctors mine is allergy related.I was diagnosed with multiple allergies and believe it or not nasal sprays drive me crazy and make me worse so cannot use .I feel your pain as when this hits me I am just miserable and unfortunately nothing helps my inflammation only a short course of oral steroids.I also suffer from pain around the eyes but don’t get the aura you mention.Hope you find relief.

Yes it was trial and error with medication, rules out nasties and finally I upped the dose and amitriptylene worked.
I occasionally get breakthrough pain but it's rare now.
I sympathise with the pain - I would rather go through childbirth again than have constant head pain.
Good luck op Smile

My update! I went back to the doctor today, and was finally prescribed antibiotics because of the length of time I’ve had the sinusitis. Fingers crossed they work.

jinglebellmel · 14/03/2019 18:46

helz I hope they work for you, let us know! How long have you been suffering?

Probably since the end of January and this was the third time I’d spoken to a doctor.

jinglebellmel · 14/03/2019 21:53

Hope they work for you

I’m on day 5 of a 5 day course of antibiotics. The pain has gone, so I’m just waiting for the inflammation to clear.
I’ve been thinking about why it’s taken so long, about two months to get it sorted. The advice is most sinusitis is caused by a virus. Antibiotics won’t work on a virus, but a virus usually clears in two to three weeks. Well, I’d waited that long before seeing the doctor. First doctor prescribed OTC spray. Two weeks later, second doctor prescribed a steroid spray. By the next two weeks it had obviously become something nastier, so third doctor prescribed antibiotics. By the time I got them I was holding on to the counter at Boots for grim life!
If there’s a next time, and I hope there isn’t I will definitely try and speed up this process!
I hope my fellow sinus sufferers are feeling better and breathing easier!

Self diagnosed sinus headaches are nearly always migraine (90%). It's American, but worth reading.

jinglebellmel · 19/03/2019 21:00

Lougle Thanks, I've come across that before actually and did wonder if they could be migraines. They just don’t seem bad enough though, and are sometimes on both sides or centre of my head.
