I have just has a voicemail from our family surgery asking me to call back when convenient regarding my middle child (11) and quote the word “task” they said nothing to worry about , obviously I am now worried sick and won’t settle until I have some idea what this would be about . Any one have anything similar, maybe a weight check , hearing etc .

I wish they wouldn't do that. It causes such worry.

Had your DC been to the Doctors recently?

Jbuck01 · 11/03/2019 19:43

No , this is what’s worrying me , surely if it were the run of the mill weight and height check school nurse usually does this ? So I’m a little unsettled to say the least.

could be recruiting 11yo boys at random for a scientific study (so nothing personal to your child except he didn't have the illness/disease they want to study).

No reason to assume the worst.

Jenniferyellowcat · 11/03/2019 19:45

I have had this a couple of times. Once it was to book DD in for a routine asthma review. Another, she had recently had some blood tests and they wanted to repeat them. If they said it is nothing to worry about I am sure it isn’t (but I would be exactly the same!)

Jbuck01 · 11/03/2019 19:45

I have scoured the internet for some clues as to what this may be , nothing has come of that so I joined the trusted mumsnet for advise.

Could he be due a vaccine?

Akire · 11/03/2019 19:46

If he hadn’t seen a doctor then they can’t be diagnosing him with anything wrong. So sounds like jabs or some sort of check up they don’t have a record of for some reason or another.

caughtinanet · 11/03/2019 19:49

They won't be lying, if they say it's nothing to worry about then why would you be worried sick?

Jbuck01 · 11/03/2019 19:51

Thank you , I would like to firstly say that I’m completely new to mumsnet . So bare with me if I’m not brilliant with the reply’s ( lol) . He does need an appointment with an asthma nurse so maybe that’s it ? But why would they be so cryptic with “task” . I’m a born panickier . Thanks again for your very fast reply feeling a little better just knowing your all looking out for each other . Will let you know in the morning.

Hi OP, my mum works at a doctor surgery and describes the messages on their computer system as 'tasks' so I think this is just dos tor's surgery lingo - for example it could be a message that's popped up saying a repeat appointment is due.

lljkk · 11/03/2019 19:56

That's why I thought of a scientific study. If you want to study (for instance) brain damaged kids, need to recruit some not-brain damaged kids to do the same tests for a comparison with healthy controls.

Test = Task.

My kids got £5 vouchers for taking part in that kind of thing.

Sonicknuckles · 11/03/2019 19:57

A task is just something the receptionists have been asked to do by a gp or nurse.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 11/03/2019 19:58

I had this a few weeks ago. Scared the life out of me (they didn't tell me not to worry!), gave me an appointment and when I got there; the system had said I needed an asthma check as it was 14 years overdue...

Jenniferyellowcat · 11/03/2019 19:58

Some NHS orgs do this now, to ensure you aren’t someone posing as the relative.

I bet it’s for an asthma review if he’s due one!

Jenniferyellowcat · 11/03/2019 20:01

Ah yes that makes sense, it’s a reference for them not a password. When I was —panicking— enquiring about DD’s blood tests they said ‘there’s not a task showing’.

Usingmyindoorvoice · 11/03/2019 20:01

One of my DCs is studying abroad this year, and to date they’ve been sent at least 3 NHS patient survey questionnaires, none of which they’ve had the time to complete when they’ve been home. Perhaps your son has come up as a random patient for experience sampling?
Regardless, whatever it’s about they will need your informed consent, sontry not to worry.

Whereareyouspot · 11/03/2019 20:02

Don’t worry!!
Task is how doctors or nurses send messages to reception
It’s part of a computer system called system one

The task will be asthma check if it’s due (as it’s the time of year GPs get checked and paid to be up to date with all the chronic disease checks!!)

Honestly don’t worry one bit

Jbuck01 · 11/03/2019 20:02

Thank you all , I do think ( hope ) it’s for a review . I feel much happier about calling them in the morning than I did 30 mins ago , big thanks to all of you x

Just want to say as a first timer , what a fantastic bunch you are ! Feeling very humbled at the helpfulness of each of you. Now I just need to learn how to use the app properly Smile

Maybe when you speak to them it's worth pointing out that that kind of message is quite scary to pick up and perhaps they could be a bit more explicit in future so people don't worry.

shallowandashmed · 11/03/2019 20:34

Spot is spot on. At the end of the financial year targets have to be met for payment so March is traditionally a time of getting the health reviews done to tick the boxes.
