I am thinking of having laser treatment on my eyes and was wondering if any of you have had it done and what was the costs?
Do you think its worth it?

My dp had it done, after his brother raved on about it. DP was -11 (is that right), he had waited severl years for technology to catch up to be able to it at that strenth. He had previoulsy worn mega thick glass in his glasses.

He could read the emergecny exit sign as soon as he'd had surgery!! He was absolutely estatic and amazed!! In fact 2 of our friends went straight out and had it done, they were so amazed!

Thank you RTL, Does he have perfect vision to this day?

He just recently started to wear glasses for reading, but that is nAormal eye sight deterioration due to age. As regards price - dp would have paid 10 times what he did!! He thought it was the best thing ever, he had been wearing glasses since a child. He was 40 when he had it done.

Some quotes have been ?4000 ?4200 both eyes. I think it could be money well spent.

I know 2 people who did it and it worked brilliantly - but, they did say to make sure that you research the clinic that you use, don't go for the "cheapest option", go for the one that has the best recommendations and results.

I would love to have it, but I am a big scaredy pants and am too concerned than something could go wrong.

MINNIE1 · 09/07/2007 10:59

Rantmum,
I am so bad i can get contacts in!! i would love to have it done cause i have to small kids DD18mos DD7mons. DD1 have broken them 4 times, plus i am 25 and would love to be glass free. I have looked into 2 clinic and i would be happy to use either. But would it be worth while to travel to England to have it done... ?

Where do you live now minnie (the people I know had it done in Glasgow)?

MINNIE1 · 09/07/2007 11:06

I'm in Ireland but i would be willing to travel, but as you said find a good clinic is the main thing.

I really don't know enough about it to advise you - I don't know what is available in Ireland, but I'd be surprised if there wasn't a decent clinic somewhere. I might be able to find out the name of the Glasgow one for you, but I don't know if that is any help.

Anyone else had this done somewhere that they would recommend?

MINNIE1 · 09/07/2007 15:33

THank you Rantmum,

I have found a clinic and i know 2 people that have had the laser done and both have been fine. I have a local clinic about 15 miles away but have'nt heard any one talk about it.
Thanks again for you info it all helps.

I had my surgery in 2000, in America. Have had perfect vision since, and none of the side effects (eg "halos" and dry eyes). Maybe I was just lucky, but I think in most cases it's OK--but there's an unlucky percentage who get a problem.

That percentage is reduced if you see a very good eye surgeon. Which means you must do some research. And get a second opinion.

My brother and father are both eye surgeons. They are all for itin fact it was they who persuaded me to get LASIKbut their advice (to repeat what I just said) is find someone good. Don't choose someone randomly, or someone convenient. I'd even make a trip to the nearest big city, for example, and find someone with a "high volume" practice, as my brother says.

It's expensiveor it was in 2000but what a difference it's made to my life.

EdieMcredie · 08/07/2008 12:01

Can anyone explain what actually happens during the procedure? I can't find this anywhere...

piratecat · 08/07/2008 12:07

and how long does it last?

piratecat · 08/07/2008 12:07

not the surgery, how many yrs does your sight stay better for?

Flier · 08/07/2008 12:09

I've had it done, and used optimax. here's a link to their website, which may answer some of your questions

I've been quoted just over £2000 to have both eyes done, desperately saving my tesco vouchers now to get it done cheaply!
