I cant help with any recovery but fantastic to hear it all went successfully. I have grade 2 spondy of L5/S1 with prolapsed discs and foraminal stenosis. My consultant wants me to have surgery but as a carer to my H it makes things very difficult with regards to after care. Im due to have nerve block injections for some temporary relief. Watching this with interest.
Flowers and take it easy!

@TryItAndDieFatLass
I hope the nerve block gives you some relief, and you're able to work out something to get surgery.
The nerve pain really is excruciating.

I'm just doing little but often and taking it slowly.
I get my staples out tomorrow and hoping to go for a little walk round my street. I feel better than I have in a long time.

Hello. Can I ask what the symptoms of this were? I've had pain in my legs (nerve pain maybe?) and hips and have just found out (via x-ray) it looks like one of my vertebrae looks squashed. Could it be this? I'm waiting on an isotope bone scan.

Hope you feel better soon!

deathtoallsnorers · 11/03/2019 07:04

@PresidentHump my main symptoms were sciatic pain shooting down both legs, also numbness and pins and needles in legs and toes. A dull ache in my lower spine. I couldn't walk or stand without being in pain in my legs and had to sit down regularly to take the strain off. Also constant tight hamstrings.
My vertebrae was pushed so far forward and my disc was bulging out trapping the nerve.
The nerve (sciatic) pain was just constantly there, it never went away but I did have relief slightly when lying down or in the bath and whilst Swimming.
I would push for an MRI if I were you. I started having sciatic pain from 2003 off and and just self treated at home with pain killers and exercise.
After the birth of my child in 2016 it's just never left. It took about a year of going back and forwards to the docs before I got a referral then a long wait till my MRI. Was all relatively quick after that though for my surgery.

Glad your op went well and has helped

I was diagnosed with spondylolisthesis as a complication of scoliosis and had fusion surgery 10 years ago. My vertebrae are fused from T10 to L5, I still have constant pain when I’m upright, can’t sit, stand or walk far, bend, stretch, lift or carry!

When I discussed it with my surgeon post op he said ‘I operated to stabilise your spine, not to take the pain away’ so there we go!

Costacoffeeplease · 11/03/2019 07:24

Sorry, just realised you wanted positive stories Blush

My consultant has said an op will do little for the back pain but should help with the nerve pain. That is all I want, I have lived with the back ache for so long if I didnt have it when I woke up Id think Id died! But the nerve pain is something else, like electric shocks and it waked me up at night. If the spine is stabilised I guess it reduces the risk of the nerves being affected, which is something at least

It's the nerve pain I couldn't take either! My surgeon said that the surgery would free the nerves which it has definitely appeared to do!
May still be a little numb due to nerve damage. I've had tingling and numbness over the past week in my right leg but absolutely no pain!
